      The Fels Planetarium
The Fels' Planetarium is the nations second oldest planetarium. Although it is a historic cornerstone to The Franklin Institute, the planetarium has come a long way from the "Giant Ant" (Zeiss Optical) projector some of you may remember from when you were kids. Now, this state-of-the-art digital projection planetarium offers the same traditional Sky Tonight presentations along with cutting edge astronomical presentations. The awe inspiring dome measures 60 feet across and 4 stories tall, which coupled with surround sound, makes the planetarium experience one you will not soon forget. The Franklin Institute celebrates World Space Week in October with informative lectures from experts, special shows in the three theaters at The Franklin Institute, demonstrations and in-museum activities for the whole family. Two Small Pieces of Glass
Two Small Pieces of Glass:
The Amazing Telescope
Four hundred years ago, a simple adjustment to a child's spyglass revealed for the first time an infinite and perplexing universe to our eyes and imaginations. Join us today, as the world's great telescopes, born of that serendipitous moment, gaze ever further into the distant pastand into our future. While attending a local star party, two students learn how the telescope has helped us understand our place in space and how telescopes continue to expand our understanding of the Universe. Their conversation with a local astronomer enlightens them on the history of the telescope and the discoveries these wonderful tools have made. The students see how telescopes work and how the largest observatories in the world use these instruments to explore the mysteries of the universe. The Gottlieb Planetarium features a unique 360-degree domed screen and BRT-110 projection system that will immerse you in adventures of entertainment and information.
