Information is provided through the Texas Plant Information Database (TPID). The database is structured to allow the user the opportunity to query and select best-suited plant species based on specific site characteristics and management objectives, which could vary from individual yard plantings to large area restoration. Listed species include trees, shrubs, vines, forbs, grasses, and marsh plants and, when planted in appropriate associations, can provide vegetated landscapes similar to those that naturally occur in Texas. Wildflowers:

This section shows some of the best regional displays of flowers from high Cascade meadows and the Columbia Gorge. I have scores of good shots yet to publish under this topic.
Because of a strong personal interest in wetlands, this is one of the largest assemblage of images on this website. This section includes sagittaria, rushes, bulrushes, nightshade, skunk cabbage, and more.
Northwest Native Plants:
The native plant gallery includes mostly pictures of Pacific Coast native shrubs such as huckleberry, osoberry, red currant and juniper, but also overlaps with wetland plants and wildflowers. Fall Foliage: This section features pictures of native plants, shrubs and trees in their fall colors, especially vine maple. The Pacific Northwest isn't known for autumn color, but it's here if you know where to look. Trees and Forests: This section displays photos of native trees both in detail and in forest settings, including douglas fir, western hemlock, bigleaf maple, Oregon ash, ponderosa pine, aspen, and more.

Since August, 1999 WELCOME! Computing in the wild, or eNature.
Done with a Macintosh, of course. NATURALLY
I hesitated to use the word 'naturalist' in the title, because that's too strong a word for what i am, or do. I love nature, observe it, record my thoughts about it, and the three are intertwined. I guess the difference is i don't make any money, or get nasty e-mail from scientists, doing it. PHOTOS
Unless noted prominently, all pictures on this site are taken by me in my meanderings around WNC. I use a Kodak DC-120 camera and a Macintosh computer. The images are not altered in any way other than some brightness and contrasty stuff that would normally done in the darkroom of a real photographer. The picture to the left might have some unnatural enhancement, however.

Hunter Fact Sheet Playgrounds ... Photo Gallery Nestled in the Shawnee National Forest, just minutes south of Carbondale, the area was named for the unique impressions made by its massive sandstone structures. Eons of geological faulting and folding have molded a landscape like none other, which is now clothed in lush garments of fern, moss, large flowering mints, hundreds of species of wild flowers and 75-plus varieties of towering trees. The natural splendor of Giant City has made it a renowned retreat that attracts more than 1.2 million visitors annually.
History
Shelter bluffs, or rock shelters, worn into the sides of the cliffs have revealed evidence of human habitation in this region from as early as 10,000 years ago, and the blackened ceilings caused by their fires are still visible today. On an 80-foot sandstone cliff near the main entrance, one can see the remains of a Native American stone wall that was erected between A.D. 600-800. The first European settlers moved into the area from Kentucky and Tennessee in the early 1800s, and by 1850, settlers were using the land to cultivate fruit trees. During the Civil War, many of the cliffs and canyons were used as havens by soldiers of both the Union and Confederate armies.
