Poetic-Philosophy Poetry with both rhythmic and non-rhythmic rhyming schemes, written with philosophical undertones, meant to stimulate new thoughts and ideologies.

Authors Blog from Baseline International:
Maurice Skillern has created a wonderful mixture of rhythmic verse and free flowing thought with his new book "Messages". It covers subject matter, thoughts, and ideas that far outdistance the status quo, leaving all who have read it pleasantly amazed. "Messages" though, is not just a poetry book but it is truly a marriage of unique thoughts in forms of both rhythmic prose and written word. We at Baseline International were simply astonished by the depth of the piece "Answers for the Children" found within its pages. An early editor's note, we feel closely captures the essence of the book.
(Maurice Skillern's poetic prose is unique, and his inspirations come in a very different, very personal way. It shows in his work. This man can WRITE!

For years, I was told by an ex-partner that my writing was a waste of time; that first books are NEVER published, and that no one reads poetry anymore. I believe that all words are worth reading and every human being deserving of a chance to be heard. So in 2002, at the age of 38 I began the long journey towards fufilling my dream. I pulled all of my poems together into a manuscript and called it " Inspired Woman ".

To purchase any of the books on this site, click on the books' images. One of Canada's most highly acclaimed poets, and author of an award-winning memoir, Patrick Lane, with this astonishing debut, suddenly introduces himself as a major novelist. Red Dog, Red Dog unfolds over the course of one week in and around a small town in the Okanagan Valley in 1958, with stories arcing back in time to the 1920s and '30s on the prairies and to the harsh life of settlers in the 1880s West. The novel centres on the Stark family. There is Elmer, a violent man whose troubled beginnings took him from his home when he was a boy in 1918, leaving him to wander alone across the West, eking out a living here and there as a hired hand. Lillian, who married Elmer shortly after the Depression, when she was seventeen, finds herself retreating steadily into isolation. Their sons, Tom and Eddy, now in their twenties, are bound together by the secrets of their childhood Red Dog, Red Dog is a deeply moving novel about the legacies of the past and the possibilities of salvation that is marked by stunning writing and an utterly compelling and original story.

William Wordsworth, the son of an attorney, was born in 1770. After the death of his mother in 1778 and his father in 1783, Wordsworth was sent away to be educated at Hawkshead Grammar School in the Lake District. Wordsworth went to St. John's College Cambridge where he developed radical political views. Influenced by the ideas of William Godwin , Wordsworth was an early supporter of the French Revolution.
Wordsworth went on a walking tour of France in 1790 and returned the following year and had an affair with Annette Vallon, the result of which was an illegitimate daughter, Ann Caroline. After the outbreak of war with France in 1793, Wordsworth returned to England. The poem, Guilt and Sorrow reveals that he still held strong views on social justice. He also wrote, Letter to the Bishop of Llandaff (1793), a pamphlet that gave support to the French Revolution. However, after the Reign of Terror (September 1793-July 1794), Wordsworth became disillusioned with radicalism. This was reflected in his verse drama, The Borderers
In 1796 Wordsworth set up home at Alfoxden in Somerset with his sister, Dorothy Wordsworth. His friend

Jarrell was a well-respected academic and literary critic in addition to his creative work. He taught at Kenyon College, the University of Texas, Sarah Lawrence College, and the University of North Carolina" University of North Carolina. His first collection of poetry, Blood from a Stranger , was published in 1942, the same year he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. d.a.levy home page curated by Ingrid Swanberg, Karl Young,
and Karl Kempton As much as levy has been disgracefully ignored since his death, he has had his torch-bearers. Ingrid Swanberg has been one of the most important of them, producing the only easily available print edition of his work in over a decade. In doing so, she carefully and deliberately worked with a book design best suited to library and popular sales to keep key works in circulation, although this has drawn criticism from some purists. It seems unlikely that some Micenas will come forward with the funds for a state of the art Swiss or French collotype edition that only collectors could afford. Outside that range of facsimile, Swanberg's edition remains a model in its own genre. You can order her edition through Ghost Pony Press: you'll find a link to the press at the bottom of this page. Although this project has been in the works for two years and some of the poetry has been at this site for that long, this page went on-line, with total irony intended, on July 4, 1998, in anticipation of an independence day that would include people like d.a.levy. - Karl Young VISUAL POETRY AND BOOK ART Miniatures The Tibetan Stroboscope Paintings

    On Sufi Poets
Sufi's are lovers of the truth. Through love and devotion they seek to become one with their beloved. Through poetry many of the great Sufi mystics have been able to encapsulate and share their spiritual experiences.
The appeal of Sufi poetry is universal, great Sufi Poets such as Rumi, Hafiz and Omar Khayyam are appreciated by both Sufi's and non Sufi's alike. This is because their poetry expresses the universal aspirations of spiritual seekers .

Home Novels Children's Books Poetry ... Contact Latest news . .....October 2010 Thanks for visiting my website.  I hope you find what you are looking for here.  Please consider the environment before printing out any of these pages.  Poetry I have a  small but perfectly formed new poem appearing in a forthcoming anthology called, Red (Peepal Tree 2010 ISBN 9781845231293) .  It rubs shoulders with works by the following illustrious company:  Berndaine Evaristo, Jackie Kay, Lemn Sissay, Moniza Alvi and Debjani Chatterjee, to name a few.  Its a splendid anthology, all 257 pages of it, edited by the formidable professor, critic and sublime poet, Kwame Dawes.  Get hold of a copy from any good bookshop -cheap at £9.99 - or watch out for tour dates. I have recently started writing many more poems, enjoying the process.  I have also been reading 'The Great Modern Poets' - edited by Michael Schmidt.  Its a great intro to modern Western poetry produced by  poets born from 1900 to the present day.  Some of the poets are obviously off their trolley, others teeter on the edge.  Some are ranters, others mystics, some saner than the sanest (finish this line yourself, all BlackAdder fans).  One or two are amazing discoveries - As promised, I'll drop names now: John Ashberry, Adrienne Rich and Frank O'Hara are all worth checking out.  I like how Professor Schmidt in his short intro to each poet explains connections between the poets, even if I don't agree on his assessments of the poets themselves.  When he does not like the poet, it feels like he chooses a rubbish poem or two to make his case!  It's the kind of book that makes you seek out full collections by the poets who particularly glitter. Comes with an audio CD too - thanks KC!
