    95. Do Unto OthersProject-Church Of The Science Of God
Inspirational poetry from poets aged 13 to 98.
    http://www.dountoothers.org/poetry.html
    POETRY , WHY?
Today, poetry is an absolute necessity. The world needs it for its vitalizing strength. Poetry came into being because of this need, and it is perpetuated for the same reason today. Poetry has nearly everything that music can give:
Melody, rhythm, sentiment–but it has this advantage:
it can come closer to the heart.
Therefore, it can have a more personal and a more lasting appeal. It satisfies a hunger for beauty that is a part of nearly every normal person’s make-up. It recaptures moments and recreates scenes that have grown dim through passing years. It stirs wholesome emotions and give glimpses across the border that, vague as they may be, are a preview of eternal things. It entertains, it inspires, and, in time of need, it comforts. We recommend these as some of our favorites, and America’s, as time has shown. Here we have presented to you a magic carpet on which you may ride back to childhood days, into the realm of fantasy and fancy, through lost memories, eerie castles, across uncharted seas, forgotten relationships, foreign places and other times, day-dreams and real dreams, laughter and tears and in great spiritual moments felt by others who, by the grace of God, had the ability to write them down before they were forgotten and lost for all time.. ENJOY!

The Place of Hope and Fear

    To the Israeli Soldier
... Death, the doorway is ever near Death is something we all fear but it is surely a reality. When and how it comes, we never know. To my Mum I dedicated this poem to my mother, who contributed so much to what I am today, and who also provided many fields for my learning. Rocky mountains high As man develops himself further, cities sprawl and destroy the beauty of nature. The contrast seems so clear yet people turn and boast of their modern flats and homes, which are surrounded by decadence, garbage and ugliness. Threads of Dawn The call to prayer (adhan) is a part of the life of a Muslim. Even if one forgets it's time to pray, one is reminded in a gentle, peaceful way that the way to success and peace is in one's hand. A piece of Flesh The relation between the body and the spirit is explored as one grows older in this poem. The effect of the mind over the body; urging it to keep going when all looks lost. The significance of our actions and the record that we will one day receive of the deeds we have sent forth

    Pat Mora responds
Thank you, Readers, for your comments and questions for our guest poets. Pat Mora has offered her responses here below. (I'll share Jame's later this week.)
    Question from Andromeda Jazmon
I wish I could be there with you at NCTE! It is going to be great. I am wondering about ideas for using bilingual Spanish/English picture books in our library. We are developing our collection in this area. We teach Spanish from Pre-K to 8th grade, but most teachers don't speak it and neither do I. I am working with the Spanish teacher for collaborative ideas using tech tools like the SMARTboard and interactive websites or apps. Do you have any ideas? We have looked on YouTube and read books together. What else could we be doing? How does a monolingual librarian promote bilingual books?
    Response from Pat Mora
Your question is about such an important issue. Most teachers and librarians are not bilingual. The number of bilingual students in our schools keep growing. I wrote a series of four easy reads, MY FAMILY-MI FAMILIA , when a foundation director made me aware that such books aren't that available. Last year I asked teachers at an IRA session how they felt about bilingual books. I encouraged them to be candid, and I'm grateful to the teacher who said, "They intimidate me." Here's our challenge. Many of our students need to see themselves in books and delight in seeing their home language in books, and yet many educators are reluctant to buy or use the books. Dive in! Display the books prominently letting students know that you value such books. Find a Spanish speaking partner (a parent, an older student, a college student) to join you in some paired reading. As I say in

    100. Poetry, Poesy, Lyricism...and Other Such Matters
Especially for teens and young adults, an introduction to the experience of lyric poetry and lyricism, including audio recordings.
    http://www.lyricalworks.com/poetry/poetry.htm
    Poetry, Poesy, Lyricism
and other such matters READ POETRY NOW? Here, on the Lyricalworks site, we're going to concentrate on lyric poetry. Lyric poetry goes back at least as far as Classical Greece, where it was often composed to be recited to the sounds of the lyre, flute, or other instrument. These song-like origins are central to an understanding of this type of poetry.
The heroic narratives of epic poetry, such as Beowulf or Homer's Odyssey and Illiad , challenge the mind and stir the blood. They concern great ideas and the histories of peoples and countries. Lyric works are more subjective and personal in origin, although they, too, may touch on universal themes.
Lyric poetry is honest and direct, an emotional outpouring from the poet's heart. A lyric poem is not intended to impress you with its erudition or cleverness, so you generally won't find an elaborate construction of intellectual or poetic conceits. Rather, it appears spontaneous, very human, even conversational. Many lyric poems are indeed quite simple, yet very moving.
A lyric poem may be an emotional response to an event or occasion; perhaps the poem describes a passionate moment. Other times, the poet is more reflective, trying to make sense of an experience and applying it to a broader field of life. Almost always, you will feel the pulse of a deep river of feeling.
