Introduction to Pollution Pollution is the process whereby various harmful substances are added to the environment (land, water, air etc.) by human and natural activities. The various types of pollution that exist are:
  • air pollution water pollution land pollution noise pollution
Natural activities that cause pollution are, for example, volcanic eruptions, sandstorms and natural forest fires. These events cause a large amount of substances such as ash and dust, which are harmful to our health, to be added to the environment. Although some natural events may contribute to pollution, human activities have a more harmful impact to the environment. How do humans contribute to pollution? As the world population increases rapidly, there is an increasing demand for food, materials and energy. The activities that produce these products tend to pollute the environment.

Pollution
Environmental pollution is the release of environmental contaminants, generally resulting from human activity. See also: Carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides produced by industry and motor vehicles are common air pollutants. Arguably the principal source of air pollutants worldwide is motor vehicle emissions, although many other sources have been found to contribute to the ever growing problem. Principal stationary pollution sources include chemical plants, coal-fired power plants, oil refineries, nuclear waste disposal activity, incinerators, large animal farms, PVC factories, metals production factories, plastics factories, and other heavy industry. Pollutants can cause disease, including cancer, lupus, immune diseases, allergies, and asthma. Adverse air quality can kill many organisms including humans. Motor vehicle emissions are one of the leading causes of air pollution. Principal stationary pollution sources include chemical plants, coal-fired power plants, oil refineries, petrochemical plants, nuclear waste disposal activity, incinerators, large livestock farms (dairy cows, pigs, poultry, etc.), PVC factories, metals production factories, plastics factories, and other heavy industry.

Pollution
Pollution is the beginning of a waste into the atmosphere making it impossible to make life on earth possible to sustain. Pollution harms the Earth’s environment and its people in many ways. Land pollution is pollution of the Earth’s natural land surface by industrial, commercial, domestic and agricultural activities. Some of the main contributions to land pollution are deforestation, construction debris, industrial factories etc. Air pollution is the accumulation of harmful substances into the atmosphere that danger human life and other living matter on the earth. The number one way to prevent air pollution is to walk or bike more and drive less. This will prevent fossil fuels from further polluting the air Water pollution is the introduction of chemical, biological and physical matter into large bodies of water that corrupt the quality of life that lives in it and consumes it. Oil spills, household chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers are the major sources of water pollution. The best way to prevent water pollution is to not throw trash and other harmful chemicals into our water supplies because it causes harm to the rivers and lakes. With Pollution in life, Earth is becoming disturbed; sooner or later causing dramatic changes in its surface. Nevertheless, Pollution is simultaneously endangering life in Earth. Pollution is becoming closer to put life on the threshold of death. These harmful actions have changed Earth, and they continue to do so today. Although pollution has harmful effects, it has provided us the life we have today; without it, we would not be here where we are. Pollution is a life killer, but also a life saver.

NOTE: In the past, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) coordinated all federal noise control activities through its Office of Noise Abatement and Control. However, In 1981, the Administration at that time concluded that noise issues were best handled at the State or local government level. As a result, the EPA phased out the office's funding in 1982 as part of a shift in federal noise control policy to transfer the primary responsibility of regulating noise to state and local governments. However, the Noise Control Act of 1972 and the Quiet Communities Act of 1978 were not rescinded by Congress and remain in effect today, although essentially unfunded.
