Within popular music, "pop music" is often distinguished from other subgenres by stylistic traits such as a danceable rhythm or beat, simple melodies and a repeating structure which are reminiscent of the songs of vocalists such as Karen Carpenter and Roberta Flack. Pop song lyrics are often emotional, relating to love or dancing. Pop music may include elements of rock, hip hop, reggae , dance, , jazz, electronic , and sometimes folk music and various other styles. For example, in the 1920s–1950s pop music drew influence mainly from jazz, beginning in the 1950s from rock and rhythm and blues Today distributed by major record companies as part of a global music market, pop music often involves mass marketing through radio television and other media, making it a part of many people's daily life. As such, it has also faced criticism.

change How does the business of pop music work?
There are also many more people working on pop music who are not seen on the stage or in the video. These people include the studio staff (people who help the musicians to record CDs and music videos in music studios), production staff (people who help make the music recordings sound good), distribution staff (people who help sell the music to stores) and retail staff (people that sell the music to people at CD stores). Tour staff help the band to travel around the country (or around the world) for their concert tours. Some tour staff help by carrying heavy musical instruments onto the stage. Other tour staff drive buses or cars, so that the band can get to the concert. Some tour staff operate sound equipment, such as the large amplifiers and loudspeakers that are used to amplify (make louder) the band's music for the audience.

The subgenre of pop is perhaps the most widely crowd-pleasing form of all popular music. Some of the defining musical characteristics of the subgenre are the presence of a hook , and production techniques which are somewhat reliant on the musical fashions of the time. A hook can be any part of the song, musical, rhythmic, vocal, or as is most often the case, a mixture of all of them. The principles of good music production (in its broadest sense), are universal, and therefore when the person behind the music is a talented writer/arranger/producer the end result is almost guaranteed to be based around several musical ideas repeated to "hook" a listener's interest. The production techniques of pop music follow closely the prevailing musical fashions. Generally

A Bad Week for Whitney - Tour Dates Cancelled, Drug Allegations
By: Webmaster on: Fri 09 of Apr., 2010 02:33 EDT (7511 Reads)
Poor old Whitney Houston. It's been a really rough week for her. Things started badly on Tuesday when she had to postpone the opening of the European leg of her World Tour due to an upper respiratory infection. Naturally, the French fans were disappointed but things were looking better for the UK with the tour scheduled to start in Manchester on Thursday. However, these dates in Manchester and Glasgow have also been postponed so more fans here will have to wait until May and June to see her. To make matters worse, there have then been allegations of drugs use , which according to Whitney are "ridiculous". We hope she gets better soon as she has such a great voice and is so very talented. In fact, she's just arrived in the UK and says she feels great ! Here are the remaining tour dates for UK fans:

    Introduction
The definition of pop music is purposefully flexible as the music that is identified as pop is constantly changing. At any particular point in time it may be easiest to identify pop music as that which is successful on the pop music charts. For the past 50 years the most successful musical styles on the pop charts have continually changed and evolved. However, there are some consistent patterns in what is identified as pop music.
    Pop Vs. Popular Music
It is tempting to confuse pop music with popular music. The New Grove Dictionary Of Music and Musicians , the musicologist's ultimate reference resource, identifies popular music as the music since industrialization in the 1800's that is most in line with the tastes and interests of the urban middle class. This would include an extremely wide range of music from vaudeville and minstrel shows to heavy metal. Pop music, on the other hand, has primarily come into usage to describe music that evolved out of the rock 'n roll revolution of the mid-1950's and continues in a definable path to today.
Music Accessible To the Widest Audience
Since the mid-1950's pop music has usually been identified as the music and the musical styles that are accessible to the widest audience. This means the music that sells the most copies, draws the largest concert audiences, and is played most often on the radio. After Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" hit #1 on music charts in 1955 the most popular music became the records influenced by rock 'n roll instead of the songs and light standards that had dominated TV's
