To get started you want to look up past American presidents online. You should easily be able ot find photos, painting, or images of them. A great place to look for easy outlines of the presidents is to search clip art for presidents, free cartoon pages for presidents, and president caricatures. Each of these will provide great outlines. Now, print the image of your president onto white computer paper. What ever size you print the image will be the size of the puzzle. Tip: If you have photo paper and want to print a nice photo of the president that will also work. It is also a great idea ot print the outline image on thick matte photo paper or card stock. Now, color in the image using crayons, markers, pencils, or whatever you have around the house. This is a great way to use up leftover craft materials form other projects and a fun way to create a puzzle for free.

Activities, Worksheets and Crafts for Presidents Day

Back to Crafts for Kids

Presidents Day (also called Washington's Birthday) is celebrated in the USA on the third Monday of February. It is a Federal holiday in the USA. George Washington's birthday was originally designated a national holiday in 1885, but its date was changed by Congress in 1971. The official US holiday is meant to honor only George Washington, but many people consider President's Day a day to honor both George Washington (born on Feb. 22, 1732) and Abraham Lincoln (born on Feb. 12, 1809). These crafts projects are for preschool, kindergarten and elementary school children. The crafts use materials found around the house, like egg cartons, cardboard, paper, boxes, string, crayons, paint, glue, etc. See

*ideal for preschoolers
Copy silhouettes of Washington and Lincoln onto sheets of cardstock. Give each child a sheet. Let children cut the sheet into 4-12 pieces (depending on ability level), then re-assemble their "puzzle." Make sure child's name is written on the back of each puzzle piece. Encourage children to trade puzzles with a neighbor and put together again. Teach children to identify George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Penny Mobile
Cut 6" circles out of brown construction paper. Ask children to decorate one side of the circle like the face of a penny. On the other side, they should write one sentence about Abraham Lincoln's life. After the penny is created, students may punch a hole near the top of the penny, then use a piece of yarn to tie the penny to a clothes hangar. Encourage children to continue making pennies until time is up.
Compare mobiles. Who has the most pennies? Who has the most interesting piece of trivia? What event or events in Lincoln's life did the most people write about?

The president said no way and the story touched the nation. Soon a small toy bear was created that became popular around the world for generations to come the "Teddy Bear". Patriotic Program Script
Each February since 1994 our second graders at Dallas Christian School have presented a patriotic program. They have learned a lot about our country and the history of America. We would like to share our script for the program. This script has changed and developed as the years have passed. The teachers who have worked on it are myself,(Pat Stevens), Charla Stigers, Kristi England, Beverly Sargent and Darlene Conner. Use the link above to view the entire play. Some parts require a costume which the parents provide, and we buy paper vests with stars and stripes, and patriotic scarves and caps. You can usually find these at the craft stores in the summer right before Independence Day. We work with 50-60 children and each child has a part to memorize. If you have fewer children, you can assign longer parts. If you have more students, you might have to add some parts to the program. Use it in any way that you would like.
