Paint your child’s arm and hand brown. Make an arm/hand print on your paper. Have your child use their hand to make green hand prints for leaves. Last you will need to use your finger or thumb to make cherry prints with red paint. Abe Lincoln’s Log Cabin
    • Popsicle Stick Construction Paper Penny Glue Scissors
Glue popsicle sticks side by side on your paper. Cut a triangle for a roof, a rectangle for a door, and a square for a window. Glue all these pieces in place. Glue the shiny penny on the square window to show Abe Lincoln looking out the window. Abe Lincoln Hat
    • Black Construction Paper (Large Sheets) Tape Scissors
Cut the paper to fit around your child’s head. Tape it to form the hat. Take another large sheet of construction paper and make a small slit in the middle of the paper, pull this paper over your child’s head and tape the middle of this paper to the inside of your long tube that fit around your child’s head. This should look like Abe’s hat.

Abraham Lincoln, one of our greatest presidents, started out in life as an absent-minded frontier lawyer. How did he nudge his memory? He stuck letters, court notes, contracts, and even his checkbook in his trademark top hat. When he took off his hat, it was all there!

George Washington's Cherry Tree Submitted by Maggy What You Need:
  • Paint Paper
What You Do:
  • Paint each child's arm brown and their hand and fingers green. Have them put their arm and hand print on the paper to make a tree. Next let them dip their fingers in red paint to make cherries. This is a great lesson to talk about George Washington and His Cherry Tree
Presidential Wig Submitted by Carla What You Need:
  • Paper Bags Packing Peanuts or Cotton Glue
What You Do:
  • Talk to your children about how the president's uses to wear white wigs then have them make a wig. They do this by simply cutting one side off of a small lunch bag and then gluing packing peanuts or cotton all over it. When it dries your children can look quite presidential!
Lincoln Cabin Submitted by Carla What You Need:
  • Milk Cartons Construction Paper Glue
What You Do:
  • Clean and dry milk cartons and then staple the tops together. This forms the roof of your cabin. Next cover your cabin with brown construction paper using glue (for added emphasis use strips to make it look more like a log cabin). Next cut out two triangles to cover the angles of the roof and then cut out a door (don't cut completely out just three sides) and draw a square window on another side (other than the one with the door) - you can paint shutters around the door. Put a shiny penny with Lincoln facing out in the window or in the triangle of the roof. Finally, cut out a rectangle for the roof and attach it to the box. You can add a chimney or other details if you wish.
