Monkey
Monkeys are one of the most intelligent animals on earth. The only primate that is smarter is the human. However, that is debatable, especially while watching two political parties lie and insult each other. Maybe a monkey has more common sense and better judgment. It certainly takes good judgment if you are considering a monkey as a pet.
A monkey can be impulsive, unpredictable, and excitable. They are very strong when they grow up. They will never adapt to living in a house. They are social animals and live in large groups. Socializing with just "their human" will never be enough. They will become lonely, leading to illness, and perhaps even die. Monkeys' are cute and affectionate while babies. They can be very difficult to handle as they grow older. Monkeys have very sharp teeth. The Monkey that has never bitten anyone is rare. If it hasn't happened yet, that day well most likely come. They cannot be toilet trained.

Proconsul:
An Early Miocene fossil dating from 20 million years ago.
It may have been the common ancestral of apes and humans.
The superfamily Hominoidea , hominoids, includes apes and humans. They are distinguished from the Old World monkeys superfamily Ceropithecoidea . Hominoids share many characteristics which indicate descent from arboreal ancestral species adapted for brachiation . This form of locomotion involves arm over arm swinging, a common human playground activity, which is now best represented among gibbons. Adaptations for brachiation include a orthograde , or semi-erect posture, and highly flexible and mobile arms and shoulders. Hominoids also have large body sizes and the largest absolute and relative brain sizes among the primates. General hominoid characteristics:
  • distinctive molar teeth, exhibiting a 5 pointed crown, (known as a Y-5 pattern);
  • orthograde posture;

    PRIMATE INFORMATION
    Information on Orangutan, Gorilla, and Chimpanzee. A lite look at the features and characteristics of each. While this information is legitimate and from cited sources, in most cases, it is by far complete as new information is learned every day. Consider this an unofficial source for primate information. Click the blue button to enter! Please bear in mind this site section is dysfunctional and has been ported from one server to another since it has closed. Many features no longer function.
    PERSONAL INFORMATION
    If you though the Primate Information was lite, consider this sparse. Some basic information about me, some job information, a spattering of my lack of skill, and maybe some looks at what I do for fun. Click the green button to proceed. My resume can also be found in this location.
    HOMEBREWING INFORMATION
    One of the many things I enjoy doing, and of the few that produce any reasonable results, is homebrewing. I make mead. Mead is the oldest known alcoholic beverage, and is produced from the fermentation of honey. Mead, like wine, can often take years to produce when shooting for high quality, robust, varieties and it only gets better with age.

I'm talking about something that completely does not exist in other primates, not just something that's a different shape or size, because there are many of those. Please send your response by email to indriindri at hotmail dot com. Come on, don't you want free Skittles? What is a tamarind tree? Schrier (1930-1987) earned the Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1956, under the guidance of Harry F. Harlow. He spent two years doing post-doctoral research with Roger Sperry at Cal Tech, then was hired by Brown University as an assistant professor of psychology. He immediately began to establish a primate behavior laboratory, but found that there was no central source of practical information about establishing and running a facility with caged nonhuman primates. He set about remedying the situation with the Laboratory Primate Newsletter, which has been published quarterly since its inception in 1962.

          • Descartes - "Great divide" exists between humans and nonhumans
            • Conventional biological wisdom - Communication in nonhumans is reflexive
              • Some signals (graded) are reflexive by-products of physiological states of organism and reflexes (Ex.: Panting)
              • Other messages are produced by fixed action patterns, which are reflexive responses to a releasing stimulus (Ex.: Threat display of stickleback fish)

    Behaviour Server: http://www.behav.org Student essays advice on essay Females drive primate social evolution. Grace Hinton,Wildlife management elective course In the study Females drive primate social evolution written by Patrik Lindenfors, Laila Frberg and Charles L. Nunn the first hypothesis was that male group size lags behind female group size in primate groups. The second hypothesis in this study questioned what factors that affect the numbers of adult males and females within groups. Though formerly studies in this matter have been focusing on the ecological variables, this study wanted to test the female driven social evolution.
    et al. 1993; Nunn et al. groups require a degree of cooperation that is unlikely to exist in strictly polygynous systems (Sommer 1988). Studies that have been completed concerning primates general framework show that it is a female-driven social evolution.
    Datas that was needed for testing the hypotheses that male group size lags behind female group in a primate group where collected and group sizes was log-transformed. To present suitable result, full dataset and dataset with solitary species removed was used. The statistical result of the relationship between male group size and female group size in primates was represented in a plot diagram.

    Simian Society of America
    THE SIMIAN SOCIETY OF AMERICA is a non-profit organization founded in 1957 to improve the welfare of primates in captivity. Composed primarily of private caretakers, membership also includes veterinarians, primatologists and zoological officials. The SSA discourages the keeping of primates by individuals who do not understand their complex needs and the multitude of problems associated with keeping them. However, for those committed to providing captive primates with long-term, care-conducive homes, the society offers health, diet, psychological well-being and management information as well as access to a network of experienced primate caretakers. The Society maintains an active network through its monthly publications, video lending library, educational publications, biennial conventions and local chapters. In addition, the SSA sponsors primate rescue and placement efforts. Through this network, mature, unwanted primates have found permanent homes in wildlife sanctuaries and private homes with necessary permits.
