22. The Elements Of Writing Series
I believe this book will become at least moderately significant among publications for writers. I would, indeed, want it in my personal library.
http://www.charlesbrashear.com/Elements_Writing/all5Flyer.htm
The Elements of Writing Series During my thirty years of teaching Creative and Expository Writing at three universities, I discovered a few things about how it's done. These books were written while I was still teaching, frequently as hand-outs to explain things to my students. Some years after I had retired, I got the chance to publish all five of these books at once; so I took it. She spent most of her childhood reading obsessively. While attending one of the premier public high schools in the region, she wrote off all forms of bad behavior with the excuse that she had to experience life in order to become a writer. She entered college as a journalism major, then married and had her first child at age twenty-one. After having three more children, she eventually managed to graduate with honors from the University of Maryland at College Park with a degree in English. She has written for newspapers and trade publications for writers, receiving her first fan letter for a humorous article about a family vacation to the wild North Woods of New Hampshire, a place where locals visit water parks in seventy-degree weather and cell phone reception is more rare than a moose sighting. Having lived for many years in the thirties-era "cooperative community" of Greenbelt, Maryland, and ready to see a return on her investment in adolescent hijinks, she was inspired to write

Literary Magazines
Introduction
Most writers get the attention of editors, agents, and other writers by publishing first in literary magazines. (Many magazines will pay you for the work they accept, sometimes by giving you a free copy of the issue in which your work appears.) When beginning the process, it is essential to do some research to determine which publications are right for you. Your publishing success rests on one axiom: Know your market. After you’ve narrowed down a list of magazines you feel might be interested in your work, find out what the submission guidelines are for each publication, and be sure to follow those guidelines carefully. Keep in mind that submissions to literary magazines do not require an agent.
The World of Literary Magazines—Determining Which Are Right for Your Work
There are hundreds of literary magazines that publish creative writing, but each has a unique editorial voice, tone, viewpoint, and mission. It’s important to read the literary magazines in which you’d like to publish

Freelance Writer Misti Sandefur Launches E-zine for Writers
June 15, 2006 Publishing News RSS PRLEAP.COM
Because of her career in the writing industry, Sandefur has subscribed to many publications for writers (paid and free). Upon reviewing the many subscriptions she has to these publications, Sandefur has learned that over half of them contain the same information, but the occurrence that has troubled Sandefur the most is the publications also list jobs for writers that pay a whopping $5 or less for all rights.
Sandefur still holds most of her subscriptions to those publications, because, at times, they do give helpful and new information. However, Sandefur thought to herself, "I could offer a publication for writers too — a publication that would give them something different — something fresh — something new."
Information writers will discover within the pages of Coffee Break for Writers includes: unique articles related to writing, marketing and publishing, personal essays from successful writers who chose the self-publishing route, markets that pay rates of $.05 or more per word or a flat rate of $25 or more, writing tips, word tips, writing exercises, interviews with book stores, successful writers, editors, agents and publishers, writing and publishing news, writing and publishing trends and a whole lot more!

http://www.everywritersresource.com/topliterarymagazines.html
Top 50 Literary Magazines Current Updates from Feeds Find a complete listing of literary magazines here. A couple of things about this list before we get to it. First we know that many will not agree fully, and some will feel we’ve left a good or great publication off the list. That’s okay. The best thing to do is go to our message boards and post your opinion under our top 50 boards and make a case for adding it to this list. The factors we used were date established, number of submissions, number of inclusions in national anthologies, and circulation. The best literary magazines, we feel, are not that difficult to identify. They are the magazines that have been publishing consistently for many years. EWR remember isn’t just about reading or rating, it’s about writers. We’ve chosen magazines that are always gaining attention not just for themselves but for the writers they publish. After all what good is a list of great magazines if they don’t continuously find new and great talent as well as publish consistent content and have those writers works places in national anthologies? This list also includes BOLD type where literary magazines take online submissions. We feel this is an important step for a magazine to take. We feel that by taking submissions online magazines are opening themselves up to many more voices and have a better opportunity to find new talent that we want to read. To this end, we have a suggestion. Go down this list and pick out a literary magazine that takes online submissions. Go to their site and submit your work. Also while you are there buy a subscription. Support those that support writers.
