Python Snakes are the Largest in the World
Python snakes are consider to be primitives because unlike modern snakes they have two lungs instead of one, and they have the remnants of the pelvic girdle and hind legs. Pythons are non-venomous. They range in length from three to thirty-three feet long and weigh up to three hundred pounds. The average python is twenty feet long. They live in rain forests, swamps, grasslands, woodlands and savannas and are native to Africa, Madagascar, Australia and Southeast Asia. Python snakes are constrictors, meaning they take hold of their prey with their teeth and then wrap themselves around it squeezing so tightly that it suffocates to death. They then unhinge their jaw and swallow the prey head first. This can take a long time depending on the size of the prey. While the food is passing through the mouth and into the stomach, the python breathes through a special tube in the bottom of its mouth. Unlike many snakes, python snakes do not chase after their prey. Instead, they lie in wait to ambush it. While pit vipers have heat-sensing pits between their eyes and nose to locate pray, pythons have the same sort of sensor pits, except they are located on their jaws. It doesn’t matter then if it is dark or light, on open ground or in dense foliage, the python can still identify food. They eat rats and mice, lizards, mammals, such as pigs, monkeys and even animals as large as antelope. In captivity, python snakes eat thawed rodents and rabbits.

Pythons are non venomous snakes that are found in tropical and subtropical Asia, Africa, and Australia. They have been introduced into USA, South America, and Europe as pets. In Florida, pythons have escaped captivity and are thriving and breeding well in nature. The fact that invasive species may pose a particular risk for ecosystems, is a well known fact. A study by Reed (2005) warned that potential invasive species, such as ball pythons and reticulated pythons, may hurt areas with many endangered and or threatened species. Now this is happening in Florida, where pythons, at least according to the media, are havocking the ecosystem of Everglades National Park. However, some scientists claim that the problem is hyped, and that the reported numbers of pythons in Everglades National Park is much smaller than postulated. Kendrick Meek , Florida) such as taking away the freedom of people to keep and breed the animals they love.

Python Snake Family Boidae Python is a common name for Nonpoisonous snakes of boa and python family. Pythons are large and muscular, and kill their prey by squeezing, or constricting, until it suffocates. Although most feed on small mammals, some large species can kill and swallow small pigs and goats. Rarely have they killed humans. Pythons range from 1 to 10 m (3 to 33 ft) long and weigh up to 140 kg (300 lb). The female lays 15 to 100 eggs, and broods them until they hatch. They are found in the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Pacific islands. The reticulated python of Southeast Asia is among the largest snakes, reaching a length of 10 m (33 ft). Other well-known pythons are the Indian python , a favorite of snake handlers; African rock python ball or royal python of equatorial Africa, which curls into a ball and can be rolled on the ground. Diamond snake or Carpet snake, also diamond python, common name for a large constricting snake found in Australia and New Guinea. It is named for diamond-shaped markings of yellow and black on the back and abdomen.

Ball Pythons are one of the most popular varieties of pet snakes. The website "Pet Support USA Reptile Reference Library", in the article entitled "Ball Python", tells why the Ball Python is so well-liked. It says the Ball Python is smaller than most pythons, which makes it easier to care for, and its colors and patterns are quite impressive. According to the website article "Python Regius - Royal or Ball Python", which was written by Elisia Lynn Rangel and published by The Regents of the University of Michigan, Ball Pythons, also known as Royal Pythons, have various markings and colors. The Ball or Royal Python can be varying shades of brown, tan, red, light yellow, or yellowish-orange. These beautifully colored snakes can have spots, stripes, or a combination of both. The same article says this gentle creature reaches an adult length between three and six feet. According to the website article "Ball Pythons", written and published by Melissa Kaplan in 1996, the Ball Python originates in western and central Africa. It lives in the outskirts of wooded areas in trees and grasslands. It says the Ball Python, which is known as the Royal Python in Europe, was given its name due to the fact that it curls into a ball when it is frightened or alarmed. The same article says how to tell a male Ball Python from a female. On the Ball Python's underside near the tail there are spurs which are claw-like remnants of back legs. These back legs were eliminated when the python and the boa evolved from the lizard. It says the male snakes have spurs that are longer than the females. Also, the female typically has a larger head than the male Ball Python.
