Burmese Pythons, natives of Asia, have claimed the Florida Everglades as their home. But now it seems they are becoming a problem for the Florida Keys. They swim from the tip of Florida down to the Florida islands. These Asia natives are thought to have been released by "pet" owners who bought them when they were small who didn't realize how difficult it could be to keep up with a snake that eventually grows to about 20 feet long weighing as much as 160 pounds. There has also been some speculation that some of the snakes got into the wild after pet stores were damaged by hurricanes. MSNBC reported that there is concern that as the snakes make their way through Florida they are a growing threat to the endangered species that live there.
