Quebec geography
Quebec, in 1996, is a province containing about 7 million inhabitants. Quebec is a peninsula more-or-less shaped like a triangle from which we must subtract the land mass which makes up Labrador ( and which is part of Newfoundland). From east to west, Quebec is bordered by Labrador, New Brunswick, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, and Ontario. Most of the population is to be found in the southern part of the province, especially along the shores of the St. Lawrence River. Colonization first took place along the St. Lawrence, then the Richelieu River, then the Outaouais, then the Eastern Townships, and finally in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean and Abitibi regions.

Quebec – Geography
The immense surface of Quebec has been beautifully shaped by glaciers during the last ice age so that a characteristic local topography with a high density of lakes and streams resulted. The province is located in the Labrador Peninsula and is surrounded from almost all sides by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. With various topography represented by ancient mountains like the Canadian Shield and the Appalachians, the Saint Lawrence River valley and the coastal region with the representative Hudson Bay, Quebec is one of the most visited Canadian provinces. The extremes of the province are the Torngat Mountains with the highest peak in Mount d’Iberville (1652m) and Saint Lawrence Gulf with the lowest elevation.

Hi list
I am trying to follow a trail of where a James BRAND sp. Janet Boyes lived and need some help
I first see him in Troi Riviere in 1834 where his son James was born . This James started writing notes about his life for his children but died in 1899 and never did get around tofinishing it :-(
On the notes he did write
"Parents born in 1810 & lives in Lochmaben Dumfries Scotland James Sr. was a poor boy but had a fair education and taught country school at different intervals of his life. James and Janet married early in life. Four of their children were born in Scotland or on the border in England James Jr born in Three Rivers Quebec. While still an infant the family moved to Kingsey in the "Eastern Township" where they lived for a few years. At abt 3 or 4 years old another move was made with the hope of better fortune to the town of Windsor on the banks of St. Francis River."
I have been trying to find a Windsor in Quebec with no Luck .

The Provincial Flag
The Quebec provincial flag was adopted on January 21, 1948. The flag depicts a white cross and 4 'fleurs-de-lis' on a blue background. The fleurs-de-lis had been used as the royal seal on the banners of French kings since the 1100's.
The Provincial Flower
The blue flag iris is the flower native to Quebec that most closely resembles the fleur-de-lis. It replaced the Madonna Lily as Quebec's provincial flower in 1999.

History of Quebec
http://www.francogene.com/quebec/geography.php
In 1534, the Frenchman, Jacques Cartier, made his first of three voyages to New France, claiming possession in the name of France. The word "Canada", at that time, designated only the region around the city of Quebec.
In 1608, another Frenchman, Samuel de Champlain, founded the city of Quebec, the 2nd permanent French settlement after Port-Royal. From 1621 continuously to 1993, the vital statistics of Quebec were maintained by the Catholic Church (for the Catholics), and after 1765 (for the non-Catholics) by the Ministers and Rabbis. At first, the parish registers were incomplete, but very soon thereafter they started to list the names of the parents of both spouses at the marriages... enabling Quebec to boast of its excellent old records. Among the principal events of this period, we note the arrival of the Carignan regiment and the `Filles du Roi', as well as the progressive transformation of an economy based mainly on the fur trade to one based more and more on agriculture. In 1791, the colony is organized into two provinces, Lower and Upper Canada, roughly corresponding to modern southern Quebec and Ontario. In 1840, the two provinces are re-united to form Canada East and Canada West. In 1867, they are again separated and together with New Brunswick and Nova Scotia form the federation of Canada. Later, other provinces would be added to the fold until, as of 1949, it was made up of 10 provinces and two territories.

What is Geography and GIS?
Geography programs seek to explain the concept of place, whether through maps and computer equipment, scholarly theories of urban development, or a complex study of the way human interaction shapes the environment. It can be studied either in a science or an arts context, but usually contains a mixture of both. GIS (Geographical Information Systems) programs are technology-rich degrees that give students a grounding in the rapidly advancing field that employs global positioning, remote sensing and computer software to study geography.

Browse the article Geography of Quebec Introduction to Geography of Quebec Quebec, (French: Québec ), a province of eastern Canada. It is bordered by Ontario, New Brunswick, and the Labrador part of Newfoundland and, in the south, by the states of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Quebec is Canada's largest province. With an area of 594,860 square miles (1,540,680 km2), it occupies more than one-seventh of the nation. It is larger than Alaska and twice the size of Texas. The vast majority of the people of Quebec are of French descent. Their language, customs, and traditions remain largely French. Quebec's provincial bird is the snowy owl. Physical Geography Quebec is the largest province of Canada in area. It lies in the eastern region of Canada. Land Three natural regions make up Quebec: the Canadian Shield; the St. Lawrence Lowland, or Valley; and the Appalachians. The Canadian Shield, also known as the Laurentian Plateau, consists of an enormous block of ancient crystalline rock. It makes up virtually all the province north of the St. Lawrence River. The terrain varies from relatively level to rolling, with an abundance of glacial debris, exposed rock, lakes, and muskegs (bogs). Immense glaciers shaped much of the surface during the last Ice Age. The Shield is an inhospitable region with a harsh environment, but possesses vast mineral, forest, and water resources.
