Ukraine Soccer Star is Radio Amateur:
from The ARRL Letter, Vol 25, No 24 on June 16, 2006 Website: http://www.arrl.org/ Add a comment about this article! Ukraine Soccer Star is Radio Amateur: If you've been following FIFA World Cup football (soccer) matches from Germany, you may know the name Sergei Rebrov, a midfielder on the Ukraine team. What you might not know is that Serge, 32, is UT5UDX and an active CW contester and DXer when he's not on the playing field (he wears number 11). Although Spain beat Ukraine 4-0 in their June 14 match, Ukraine is still considered a favorite to advance from Group H. Rebrov and his teammates next face off against Saudi Arabia on June 19 at 1800 CEST. Rebrov also has operated as M0SDX, TA2ZF and other call signs.thanks to Osten, SM5DQC; Michael Keane, K1MK

harry newell for calling last years vendors one by one. dave thompson for helping resolve general office mayhem. tom morris for distributing flyers at FIU, speading the word, and helping on setup day. ed kretchmer for distributing flyers and running errands. i hope i covered all those that helped out! we will have exact numbers hopefully by next meeting as to how we did. we did not break even. i do think we lost less than i thought we were going to at the start of the show. vendor turnout was dismal. attendee turnout was dismal. a total of 4700 post cards were mailed to hams in the quad county area, a weeklong ad was run in both the herald and a spanish newspaper. the show received mediocre attendance from even its own club members despite the good reviews we got last year. we even had to go outside of the ham community for volunteers! the pretty smiling face you saw in the ticket booth isnt a ham and really has no interest in being a ham. she's a friend that came to help the cause.

online practice for US FCC Amateur Radio exams
http://www.radioexam.org/
"How do I get my Ham Radio license?"
You'll need to pass a written exam. RadioExam.org has practice exams which you can use to try out your readiness for the real FCC exams. There is no Morse Code (CW) requirement any more. The Technician license has not required CW since 1991. All CW tests were eliminated in the US in 2007 after international treaties were amended to allow countries to license their amateur radio operators for HF band privileges without CW exams. The US was not the first country to implement these changes - but just about everyone else who hadn't by then has done so now. You are still allowed to pursue CW yourself if you choose to. CW is now just another digital radio mode, the only one that can be encoded and decoded without a computer. Some just like it. Others recognize the technical advantage that CW is the last mode to go away when HF radio propagation is difficult, which is important for disaster communications. But reality says most choose not to do CW any more. It's up to you! All US Amateur Radio exams can now be attained just by passing written exams. You can practice for all three of those exams here at RadioExam.Org. We have the full FCC-published question pools in the practice exams on this site.

What was different this year that was lacking in years past? Read more... Field Day 2010 - GOTA Station Success! Written by W6ADC Tuesday, 29 June 2010 11:07 I, W6ADC, had the pleasure of managing the club GOTA station this year. Different from years past, we setup the station below the Angels Gate Cultural Arts campus on the grounds of Old Fort MacArthur. We have a pretty decent turnout of public visitors as well as a number of inactive licensed operators, many friendly faces, and a few four legged ones as well. Two boys, Justin KI6FTP (12) and Issac KI6FXM (10) stole the show with well over 50 QSOs. Check out the video below of "the boys" working 10 meters in the last hour of the contest! Read more...

    Interest in 6 Metres (15 Nov 2010)
With the near impossibility of getting licensing on 23 and 70cm currently, interest has continued on other bands, and a new proposal has been received for a 6 Metre voice repeater for Lincolnshire.
GB3XD has been proposed by Brian, G7AJP for a site near Louth on the Lincolnshire Wolds, and coverage should extend north to Hull, south to Peterborough, and west to Doncaster.
The application will request use of 50.730 MHz and CTCSS tone of 71.9 Hz.
It is hoped that it can be licenced presently.
