This page is under construction. A portable Station for 30 metres I'm working on what I hope will be a W2IMU feedhorn for 2.4 GHz here Preliminary work on how to feed a small deep dish for AO-40 here I built two 2 short yagis for 2 metres on an Az-El mount. I hope to add further info here when I get a chance. I scanned the manual for the Lunar 80P 2 metre amplifier for another ham; it can be viewed here I have some Excel spreadsheet calculators for tranmission lines and troposcatter here I work for the Canadian Department of Transport in the Marine Safety directorate. I hope to add some information on the GMDSS and the Ship Station Radio Regulations in the near future. I used to work procuring electronic equipment for the Canadian Coast Guard and once had the opportunity to work onboard CCGS HENRY LARSEN. Of course, I brought my IC-251 transceiver and 70cm receive converter for some satellite fun in the High Arctic. What page would be complete without some Links You can drop me a line here. Home Welcome to Carsten Groen's personal website!
On the following pages you can get an idea of my interests, and what I spend my time on (you will soon find out that 99% of my spare time is spent on something technical, well, 100% of my "work time" is also spent on technical stuff The 8 meter homemade parabolic dish , and the new observatory (The dish has since been taken down) I have been an active Radio Amateur on the shortwave bands and also on Moonbounce (EME). for many years. At this point however, this hobby has been put on "hold" for me due to lack of interest at the moment.
Instead I'm having a blast trying to learn to fly R/C controlled model planes and helicopters :o) During the fall of 2003, I have built an "Garden" observatory, that houses a large computer controlled telescope
Besides my hobbies, I enjoy working with "almost anything technical" :-), as you will see on the following pages...

The Webb Antique Microphone Page
RCA Ribbon Microphone Repair Service
By, Kenneth M. Webb Charles (Charlie) Gant was RCA's West Coast Photophone Division expert repair technician on Ribbon-Driven Galvanometers and RCA Ribbon Microphones. A few years ago, before he passed away, I was fortunate enough to spend time with Charlie in his workshop. I had just started to repair ribbon microphones and was excited to talk to an experienced professional. It would be a tremendous learning experience. Charlie was delighted that there was someone young and interested who wanted to learn how to repair ribbon mics the Gant way. We discussed the different aspects of ribbon mic, repair and he was kind enough to teach me the skills and techniques that were necessary to accomplish this. Spending time with Charlie made me realize that Ribbon mics were really functioning works of Art, and that repairing them required a unique blend of technical skill, incredible patience, and a delicate touch needed to cut, crimp and tune a piece of ribbon material only a couple of microns thick. My background in physics and training as a classical musician made me truly appreciate Charlie's talents. It was a sad loss when Charlie passed away. I was fortunate in acquiring his tools and limited parts that he had on hand. It has allowed me to carry on his legacy of fine ribbon repair. Below is a picture of his work desk that I continue to use to this day.

An original manual on a complex piece of electronic equipment (with multi-layer boards, path layouts, complex schematics, color layer identification, etc.) is always easier to read than a replication. If the manufacturer can no longer supply the information you need, ManualMan would be happy to serve you. Older publications are also hard to find. For example, reference books or magazines were usually bought for one purpose and tended to be discarded or thrown out as they became obsolete. Some people, though, like me, find a certain charm and fascination in these publications.
We also accept selected consignments of vintage gear 25-years old and older.
