Maurice Friedman, A Heart of Wisdom: Religion and Human Wholeness
“Drawing on almost a half a century of immersion in the world’s great religions, coupled with an ever-deepening understanding of the philosophy and phenomenology of religion, the author takes a dialogical approach through which religious reality is not seen as an external creed and form or as subjective inspiration, but as the meeting in openness, presentness, immediacy, and mutuality with ultimate reality. Religion has to do with the wholeness of human life. The absolute is found, not just in the universal, but in the particular and the unique. When it promotes a dualism in which the spirit has no binding claim upon life and life falls apart into unhallowed fragments, religion becomes the great enemy of humankind.”
State University of New York Press, 1992. 254 pages, about 6 x 9 inches, hardcover. New, remainder. Item #626. Shipping weight: 1.5 lbs. Publisher’s price: $59.50. Your price: $5.00

11/15/2010 3:20:59 PM PST chickadee 51 replies Isthmus ^ Esbensen, 53, who was ordained as a Unitarian Universalist minister in 1996 and recently became head of a Madison congregation, does not believe in God or life after death. She calls herself a "humanist atheist." She thinks belief in deity has arguably done more to hurt than help the world. "People who do not believe in God are actually kinder, gentler people," she says. A personal belief in God, for instance, was not needed for Esbensen to comfort the dying woman in Minnesota, to "say what she needed to hear." This fall, Esbensen became minister of the Prairie Unitarian Universalist...
Nazism's Compromise with German Big Business Led to an Imperialistic 'Green' Economy
11/15/2010 8:28:57 AM PST Olympiad Fisherman 3 replies The Ignorant Fishermen ^ Even stranger still is how so many have naively followed in the footsteps of Albert Speer’s defense, always blaming Nazi technology, industry and the economy for the holocaust. Secular leftist and Marxist scholars always find ways to focus on the Third Reich’s economy so they can paint ‘right wing’ modern industry, capitalism and Euro-American colonialism with Nazi blood. This argument even became much more plausible thanks to the Night of the Long Knives in 1934 when Hitler, Himmler and Goering arrested and later assassinated Ernst Roehm, the homosexual leader of the very left leaning nationalist SA. Roehm’s execution, however, was...

Brings together many articles which Wim van Binsbergen has written over the years in the fields of the anthropology and intercultural philosophy of African religion.

Studies in anthropology and intercultural philosophy
Important notice: List of publications Wim van Binsbergen Over the years, the Shikanda portal (of which the present page on African religion has attracted the largest number of visitors) has grown to such size, and its internal structure has become so complex, that visitors have had increasing difficulty finding their way, even despite the internal search facility which appears on all the index pages of the various constituent websites. Since Wim van Binsbergen's main output consists of texts for publication, an updated list of publications with hyperlinks to all available fulltext digital texts seems the best remedy. Thanks to the good services of the African Studies Centre, Leiden, in the course of current retrodigitalisation of its members published work, many more digital texts have recently come available, so that now the list of publications could be greatly improved and given a more prominent place in the Shikanda portal.
