The style of their pictures, and their use of oil painting influenced the Italian painters.

MIracles from Museum of Cathedral in Orvieto
Some great news for those , who wanted to visit and see with your own eyes inside of museum Duomo in Orvieto. This cathedral is in all global anthologies of western art strongly present with one of most important and in same time most strange, unusual late middle age architectural design in Italy with famous Last Judgment of Luca Signorelli. And when we came to this cathedral and put our hand on door knob there was no reaction.

An exhibition exploring the perception of ART and the identity of the ARTIST through HISTORY and in CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY Professor Christopher L. C. E. Witcombe FIRST PART T he period of the Renaissance (14th and 16th centuries) brought with it many important changes in the social and cultural position of the artist. Over the course of the period there is a steady rise in the status of the painter, sculptor, and architect and a growing sympathy expressed for the visual arts. Painters and sculptors made a concerted effort to extricate themselves from their medieval heritage and to distinguish themselves from mere craftsmen. At the beginning of the Renaissance, painters and sculptors were still regarded as members of the artisan class, and occupied a low rung on the social ladder. A shift begins to occur in the 14th century when painting, sculpture, and architecture began to form a group separate from the mechanical arts. In the 15th century, the training of a painter was expected to include knowledge of mathematical perspective, optics, geometry, and anatomy. A major development in the Renaissance is the new emphasis on the realistic description of figures and objects in painting and sculpture. The call to "imitate nature" involved an almost scientific examination of optical phenomena. In order to make figures and objects appear three-dimensional, forms were "modeled" employing the optical principles of light and shade. These correctly rendered three-dimensional figures and objects were placed in a three-dimensional illusionistic space created through the newly developed device of linear perspective.

Renaissance Art Tour Yesterday, we went back to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC with friends. In the past, we have been on an Animals in Art, Every Picture Tells a Story, and Greek Mythology in Art tours. This time we were led on a great Renaissance Art tour. This tour focused on how art changed during this period. It was very interesting. The tour started with this painting. It was painted in 1308!!! It is called The Nativity with the Prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel and the artist is Duccio di Buoninsegna . It is all done in tempera paint. Blue tempera paint was rare, and so by painting in blue, it shows just how important this painting was. It was painted to be part of the front altarpiece in the Siena Cathedral in Italy. At the time this piece was painted, art was only used for religion and was very 2 dimensional. The people didn't look real, the proportions were all wrong and very few colors were available for use. Next, we saw this absolutely beautiful painting. It was painted in 1445. It is called

Michelangelo Buonarroti - Renaissance Artist This narrative on Michelangelo and his famous Renaissance art is among the most comprehensive on the Web. It details the story of Michelangelo's life followed by specific discussions on his famous Renaissance paintings depicting the Story of Genesis on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The Life of Michelangelo Michelangelo Buonarroti was born to Ludovico di Leonardo Buonarroti Simoni and his wife, Francesca Neri, on March 6, 1475 in Caprese in Casentino. He came from a respectful family, 2nd born of three brothers. His family had connections with the ruling Medici Family. His mother was frail and sick and could not nurse Michelangelo, and so he was placed with a wet nurse of a stone cutting family. At the age of six, Michelangelo's mother passed away and the family moved to Settignano. Around the age of 12, Michelangelo attended grammar school, which was run by Francesca da Urbino. After his brief education, he was enrolled as an apprentice for Domenico Ghirlandaia. After returning to Florence, Michelangelo produced the magnificent David, manly and athletic looking, projecting heroic courage.

This art was created during the renaissance period. The renaissance – often termed as the beginning of the modern age - is conventionally the historical age after the middle ages and before the reformation. It marked the beginning of good living and the spread of knowledge far and wide with the introduction of printing. Today’s historians however, prefer to think of the renaissance as e ‘cultural phase’ with humanism as its theme rather than an entire historical epoch in itself. The word renaissance literally means “rebirth” – translated into French by the French historian Jules Michelet and expanded by the Swiss historian Jacob Burkhardt, in the 1960’s.It was the rebirth of culture (mainly European) which arose from the rediscovery of ancient literature. Renaissance art can most appropriately be explained by certain figured and their works which highlighted it an all genres of art ranging from painting to poetry. This period and its art have no distinct point of origin – especially as they came about at different times in various places.

    20. The Art Of Pier Paolo Pasolini
Renaissance art in his films. By Lisa Aurigemma.
    http://italian.vassar.edu/pasolini/art.html
In The Decameron , Pasolini appeared as a disciple of the early Renaissance artist Giotto, commissioned to paint a fresco for the church in a Neapolitan town. This is how Pasolini looked on himself: as an artist, and as a disciple of past masters. In his films, images of Renaissance art are constantly evoked through visual cues.
The Supper Table : The wedding banquet scene in the beginning of Mamma Roma , as compared to Domenico Ghirlandaio's Last Supper. The Landscape of the Agony : Pasolini uses desert settings much in the same way as the Holy Land is depicted in Renaissance art. The Madonna : I suppose Pasolini could not resist making reference to one of the most frequently depicted subject matters in all Christian art. The Crucifixion : Nor could he resist this subject matter, for the death of Ettore, in Mamma Roma
