A Free Rhyme Time Game We Called Stink Pink
When my family went on trips in the early 1950's we often played word games. One game we knew as "Stink Pink" and this is how it was played then, and again with our children in the 1970's. Someone would say "Stink Pink" and describe two rhyming words, the last word was usually a noun and the first word hopefully modified it! So the questioner would say "Stink Pink, a distant vehicle" and everyone tried to guess the answer (which was "Far Car"). For two syllables we used Stink-o Pink-o". For three syllables "Stink-a-roo Pink-a-roo". For four syllables "Stink-a-roo-uh Pink-a-roo-uh". We continued adding -uh. The last syllables of the two word answers had to rhyme and the two words had to have the same number of syllables. At least this is how I remembered it. Try the questions below with a friend. You may check the form on the right for the answer Stink Pink, an unusual rabbit Rare Hare Stink Pink, colorful footwear

For example, if you enter the word laughter under this option, Rhymer retrieves a list of words with the ending sound er (e.g., admirer, doctor, pleasure, scholar, watercolor, and were). Other examples of ending rhyme include:
    • hat/cat plate/eight marigold/buttonholed
This option lets you easily find exact rhymes (words in which the final vowel and consonant sounds are the same) and masculine rhymes (rhyming words with a stressed final syllable).
    Last Syllable Rhymes (timber/harbor)
Words with last syllable rhyme have the same sounds following the last syllable boundary (commonly a consonant, a vowel, and another consonant). For example, if you enter the word explain using this option

List of English words without rhymes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search See also: English words with uncommon properties The following is a list of English words without rhymes , or refractory rhymes i.e. , a list of words in the English language which rhyme with no other English words in the strict sense that they are pronounced in the same way from the vowel sound of the main stressed syllable onwards. They may not be considered rhymes if they are identical in those syllables—for instance, bay and obey often do not count as rhymes. The list was compiled from the point of view of Received Pronunciation and may differ from lists of words that do not rhyme in other accents or dialects. Multiple-word rhymes, self rhymes (adding a prefix to a word and counting it as a rhyme of itself), and compound words have not been considered.

Arbor Day is a day set aside to plant trees and educate people about the importance of trees. Arbor Day began in Nebraska in 1874, the brainchild of J. Sterling Morton.
Morton, the editor of Nebraska's first newspaper, wanted to see settlers flock to the state. But the lack of trees on the Nebraska prairie posed a challenge. Although the prairie had the makings of rich farmland, would-be settlers could not build or heat homes without timber. In 1872, Morton suggested that the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture enlist the help of the state's residents in remedying the tree shortage. Morton recommended that the state establish a special day for people to plant trees and offer prizes for those who planted the most. On April 10, 1874, Morton's idea became reality, and Nebraska became home to America's first Arbor Day observance.
Today, the United States observes National Arbor Day on the fourth Friday of April. All fifty U.S. states celebrate Arbor Day, although dates vary from state to state according to local planting season. At least 25 other countries also have holidays and/or observances similar to Arbor Day.
