    Bleau à Bloc

Bleau à Bloc is the title of the new topo of Jacky Godoffe . This first issue of a series of three topos covers the North-West of the forest of Fontainebleau (Cuvier, Franchard, Demoiselles,...) The principle is original since the book is exclusively based on drawings on photos. The price is rather expensive (30€) but for 336 pages. The topo can be found in the classical booksellers or ordered on the website of Versante Sud . (5 responses)

Introduction to Rock Climbing
Over the past 100 years, Rock Climbing has become a globally recognized sport and leisure activity. Today, people from all walks of life are Rock Climbing outdoors, indoors, and at home using climbing walks they built themselves. The indoor environment is highly controlled, nearly all risk has been eliminated, and climbers can be taught all they need to know about the safety systems in a few minutes. The outdoor environment is virtually uncontrolled, all risks are possible, and a climber can spend a lifetime learning the safety systems and still not know it all. Climbing is unique among the equipment-oriented adventure sports in that the thrills, challenge, and much of the satisfaction can be created in a warehouse. Other sports such as skydiving and white-water boating simply cannot be taught or accomplished inside.

Benefits of Climbing Walls
Indoor climbing on Climbing Walls is a good place to learn because it is seen as a safer alternative to outdoor climbing. Climbing Walls provide a fully controlled environment with all the necessary safety equipment and it is patrolled by instructors who will ensure that you learn the basics and who will work with you until you achieve a level of skill and feel comfortable climbing with a partner. First you are shown how to strap yourself into a harness and then you learn the basics of climbing, rope management, knot tying and the importance of following instructions implicitly. When your life is in the hands of another person or when someone else's life is in your hands, you must always listen. Just as driving a car is a skill learned over a period of several months under continual and patient instruction, where initially there is a lot to learn and you are doing things with your hands, your feet, your eyes, ears and brain while the car itself is a 'lethal weapon' so you have to remember that rock-climbing is a potentially deadly sport. The insistence on safety and learning the rules and constantly repeating the basic movements is essential if you and your climbing partners are to climb safely. It is essential that you have the kind of personality that is happy to learn, be patient, accept and follow instructions and obey commands instantly. That said, if you are keen you can take various courses and progress through learned pathways to become a leader and teach climbing skills to others.
