World Romania government survives austerity confidence vote Wed, Oct 27 18:42 PM BST By Radu Marinas and Luiza Ilie BUCHAREST (Reuters) - Romania's centrist coalition government survived a no-confidence vote in parliament on Wednesday over its deep spending cuts and tax increase, needed to maintain international aid for its recession-hit economy. The vote will help the European Union's second-poorest country keep its 20 billion euro (17 billion pound) International Monetary Fund-led economic bailout on track, though Prime Minister Emil Boc will struggle to push through fresh reforms with his thin majority. The final count showed 218 parliamentarians voted for the opposition motion, short of the majority of 236 needed to topple Boc, who has slashed public wages by a quarter and raised value added tax by 5 percentage points. "The news is a relief in terms of political stability, as this is a key issue," said Georgiana Constantinescu, analyst at Credit Europe. "It's a positive signal for foreign investors especially considering the ongoing IMF mission review and the absolute need for predictability, stability and coherence in economic policy." An IMF team is in Bucharest to review the bailout, which requires Romania to cut its budget deficit to 6.8 percent of gross domestic product this year from 7.2 percent in 2009, and discuss a possible new deal once this one expires in March.

Romania Government
The Romania Government plays an important role in the administrative function of the country. The central government of Romania consists of key components like the Council of Ministers, Court System, Grand National Assembly , Office of the president of the republic and the State Council. The president is generally elected by the Grand National Assembly for a fixed tenure of the legislative period.
The Grand National Assembly is regarded as the supreme body responsible for controlling and supervising the functions of the smaller states. It comprises of 369 deputies elected on the basis of universal adult suffrage for a fix period of five years. Due to the constitutional amendment of 1974, the GNA used to meet for a regular session twice a year. However, during emergencies the GNA has the power to extend the terms of the officials.
The Grand National Assembly has the sole authority to supervise the functioning of the people's council, regulating the electoral system, approving the national economic plan and the state budget. Apart from this, it also maintains public order, formulates foreign policy and looks after maintenance of national defense. When a threat regarding the national existence of the country arises, the GNA has the power to declare war against that country. The other powers of GNA include amending the constitution and judging the constitutional validity of the law. However, it can be said that the Romanian Government is very much responsible to the demands of the people and takes adequate measures to solve their problems whenever necessary. The people also actively participate in the formation of the government.
