Rose Gardening
If any one flower has been universally recognized throughout history, it would have to be the rose. Throughout ancient and modern times the rose has made appearances in movies, art, literature, sports, and in multiple historic events. It wasn't until the 18th century that rose gardening started to appear in Europe and North America, but it has caught on widely and is now very popular throughout the world. Rose gardening, perhaps because of all the thorns involved, often appears to be difficult to the average or first-time gardener. Rose gardening can be a challenge at times, but it can also be one of the most rewarding gardens around your home. By following a few simple steps, anyone can be on their way to creating a thriving rose garden. Find out more about rose gardening by reading the following articles below. More than flowers...
The Rose Garden is not only a Mesa landmark but a centerpiece for community, education, and innovative economic initiatives in the East Valley. Students, kindergarten through high school and community college through university, use the Rose Garden as botanical laboratories and study areas. Community members are encouraged to consider the Garden as a demonstration center for rose and tree varieties as well as locations for special events, meetings, and social gatherings. The terrace areas of both the East and West gardens offer ideal intimate settings for music ensembles, theatrical readings, and art displays. The Rose Garden at Mesa Community College is an excellent example of the unique and outstanding results that can be achieved through one of Mesa Community College's community partnerships. The partnership between the Mesa-East Valley Rose Society and Mesa Community College has resulted in the largest public rose garden in the desert southwest and is the only significant public rose garden begun since 1974. The garden provides a beautiful setting for students and the public to enjoy our nation's national flowerthe Rose.

Type Of Rose
The shrub rose is one of the easiest roses to grow. Shrub roses are tall plants which can range from 4 feet to 12 feet. Shrub roses usually bloom only once but they bloom heavy during spring and early summer. They also produce hips which can be dried and made into rose hip tea. Sometimes the hips will grow if planted. Caring for the shrub rose is very easy since they don't require a lot of care. They do need plenty of water so be sure to water them well especially during the summer. ...
Hybrid Tea Roses
The Hybrid Tea Rose is a cross between the old fashion tea roses and hybrid perpetuals. They have a sweet fragrance and are a favorite among gardeners. Hybrid Tea roses are repeat bloomers, meaning they bloom through the whole growing season. The blooms are large and they grow from 3 feet to 6 feet in height. Hybrid Teas are very easy to maintain. The main thing they need is water and fertilizer. The Hybrid Tea Rose will add beauty and elegance to any type of garden.

Pest Control for Roses
from : Liew
Roses attract not only the praise and compliments of your friends and neighbors, but the unwanted advances of insects and animals in your area. Nothing is worse than watching your beautiful rose bushes being destroyed in their bloom after many months of hard work. There are a variety of ways to protect your investment ranging from chemical applications to natural deterrents.
Although a number of insects reside in and around rose bushes, the most destructive by far is the Japanese beetle. The infestations are short termed, but they will clean the leaves right off those delicate branches leaving a lacy pattern in what is left. Uncontrolled they can kill the bush. Many choose to spray or dust the bushes with chemicals like Sevin or Diazinon. This will kill the adults and is readily available in any home and garden center. However, these chemicals do not provide an instant kill leaving the beetle to finish its snack before dying. Also, care must be taken with application of the product and in later handling of your roses to prevent accidental ingestion of the poison. If you have a large amount of bushes, this option is often the most sensible.

How to Choose the Right Roses for Your Garden
There's an enormous selection of roses that you can grow in your home garden. With such a large selection to choose from, your decision may seem more like a difficult task than the fun that it should be. In order to make this process easier, there are a few important factors that you should consider prior to choosing your roses.
Color
How will the color of your roses effect your garden? Look at different catalogs, as well as your neighbors' gardens, to get an idea of the colors you like best. While the color of your roses might not seem very significant, you should consider the colors of other plants and flowers that your roses will share the garden with. Will the assortment of colors look nice, or will they clash? For some, color-arrangement is a priority; while for others, it's no big deal.
Size
In addition to color, the size of the roses you choose is very important. Consider the height of your roses at full-growth. If the roses grow fifteen feet in height, will they look unattractive in your garden? Remember, the size of roses vary. While some roses may grow up until eight feet, other can grow up to twenty feet in height. Measure the area of your garden prior to choosing the roses you want to plant. Compare your width and height measurements with roses you're looking to purchase. Your roses should have an ample amount of space to grow as well as plenty of exposure to the air. If you only have a small amount of space to dedicate to roses, you may want to consider growing miniature roses. These roses do not take up a lot of space and are easy to plant and care for.

Rose Gardening
Rose gardening has been around for centuries. No other flower has been as romanticized throughout history as much as the rose. Even today more than 1.2 billion cut roses are purchased in the Untied States every year and about 189 million of those are red roses purchased by men on Valentines Day. Roses were known to the ancient Greeks as "the perfume of the gods." There is no record of Roses in Egypt at the tie of the Pharaohs, but in the later years quantities of Roses were shipped from Egypt and Macedonia for the great Roman festivals. This profitable commerce was lost, however, when Roman gardeners grew Roses in hothouses for winter flowers. The Roman invader of northern Europe and England brought to those lands the Roses of the Mediterranean region. Evidently, Rose water and fresh or dried Rose petals were used by the early races of Asia as well as by the Greeks and the Romans. The essential oil contained in Roses is reputed to have been discovered accidently in ancient Persia. Damask, gallica, alba

Caring for Your Roses
Taking proper care of your roses can seem like a very taxing, and time consuming thing to do, but the results of such care far more than make up for it. Unfortunately, roses are the most difficult flower to manage and keep healthy; however, all good things require high maintenance.
There are many small things that have to be done to keep your roses looking their best, but all of those small things add up to one very large one. Here are some great tips for the regular upkeep of your roses.
1. You should prune your roses in the early spring. Or at least once the others start budding because the buds will eventually become new branches later.
2. You should cut the dead and damaged branches first. Next, you should cut all but five of the leftover healthy branches. They should end up at about the thickness of a pencil.
3. Cut the bushes by approximately one third or one half, depending on how tall you want them. Cutting above the outward facing buds, Which is the buds that is on the outside of the rose bush because this will help the bud to grow upward; which will make the center of the bud open up for better air circulation and shape.
4. You should always sharpen your hand shears before pruning, and prune the climbing roses with caution. The branches have a tendency to overlap and you wouldnt want to prune the wrong branches.
