Rose is one of the beautiful flowers and a symbol of love, as well. You can grow a rose garden as memoranda for your Valentines Day Special. Just select the right roses for your garden and you have halfway finished your job. I will provide you with some tips for the basics of rose gardening and then you can envy your friends and neighbors with your picturesque rose garden. Some Important Basics for Rose Gardening: 1. Soil- roses require a soil pH that range from about 6.5 to 6.8. Soils having good drainage are good for growing roses. This can be done by integrating peat moss. Rose can grow in almost all types of soil. However, a fertile soil that is rich in organic matter is considered the best for the growth of rose plants. Also add about half a pound of superphosphate to the soil. 2. Irrigation- generally rose bushes should be watered two times a week thoroughly. Watering the rose bushes in the late evenings should be strictly prohibited. This promotes the growth of powdery mildew, which is common disease seen in the rose plants.

Rose Gardening - Suitable Climate Zone for Growing Roses
Know Your Zone
The most reliable way to grow roses is to know your zone. If you can find a USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map, this will help you significantly. You can find out which of the 11 different climate zones you are located in, including all 50 United States, Canada and Mexico. This will help you figure out what you can and cannot grow in your area. The map seems very large and colorful, but it can provide you with a lot of good information. The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University and the United States Department of Agriculture combined to make this map. They will track the lowest temperatures of the region and the annual rainfall. Each color represents a different zone. Zone 1 has the coldest temperatures of the region, where the temperature can be as low as 50 below degrees Fahrenheit. On the other hand, Zone 11 has a low temperature of only around 40 degrees each year. As you can imagine, different plants and roses will thrive in Zone 1 compared to Zone 11 and these different species will need remarkably different environments in which to thrive. Understanding your region and the boundaries of the different climates will help you grow in the right zone for your plants. If you have access to get online, you can locate a map and see where you are and which zone you correspond to.

Rose Gardening
Roses have gotten a bad wrap over the years for being difficult to grow and maintain. If you are thinking of rose gardening don稚 let this rumor stop you. While rose gardening can prove to be challenging, once you get the hang of it, it really isn稚 that bad. When you first start rose gardening, you will have to choose what type of rose you wish to plant, and no, I知 not talking about the color. You will have to choose between bare-root, pre-packaged, and container-grown roses. Bare-root roses are sold in the winter and early spring. They should be planted as soon as frosts are over and the ground is warm and workable. Pre-packaged roses are bare-root plants that are sold in a bad or box with something around the roots to retain moisture, such as sawdust. Container-grown roses are grown; you guessed it, in containers. They will be either budding or already in bloom when they become available in the early spring. Planting in rose gardening is not that much different than any other type of plant. The most important thing, as always, is good, healthy soil and a prime planting area. It doesn稚 matter whether your roses are bare-root or container-grown, the planting methods are the same as any other shrub. Make sure the spot you choose has good drainage, gets plenty of sunlight, and will not overcrowd your roses. Before planting, any dead leaves and thin or decayed shoots need to be cut off. Any damaged or very long roots also need to be trimmed. Soak bare-root roses in water about 10-12 hours to restore moisture in the roots before planting and water the soil before planting as well. Make sure the hole you have dug is large enough for the root growth of the rose. Also it is a good idea to use compost or mulch. After all, roses like extra nutrients just like any other plant.

    OVERVIEW
    DESIGN FEATURES
In the east garden, free form beds with winding paths, benches, arches and trees provide a more contemplative atmosphere filled with color, fragrance, and shade. These beds include Floribundas, Shrubs and Old Garden Roses and showcase the color, versatility, vigor and ease of care that roses can bring into the landscape of homes and public facilities.
The east entrance to the Library was envisioned as the "Fragrance Walk" to create an enticing scented path leading to the Library doors. Especially fragrant Hybrid Tea roses are planted along one side of the sidewalk and benches are provided so that visitors can stop and enjoy the heady rose perfume.
Along the south side of the Library building, where the summer heat is the most intense, are large beds of Hybrid Rugosas and Species roses. These beds are a clear demonstration that there are low maintenance roses for even the most difficult planting sites.
Grandiflora, Floribunda and Shrub roses, xeric plants and trees provide a border between the west parking lot and the street. Three Rosa Banksiae Luteas, cover an area about 40 feet long, 10 feet wide and 8 feet high effectively screen the parking lot from the street and are the perfect demonstration of the vigor and use for that rose.
