They were: ' Coral Dawn Flammentanz and Rosa alba A little later I have read some books about roses from the library, and when I saw pictures, I became more and more delighted in roses, specially when I saw first flowering bushes.. mostly in the Gothenburg Rosarium. I wanted to buy many of them and I learned much about roses, their attributes, what they need and how you grow them. So my adventure with roses started.. and by now there were 98 sorts of roses in the garden. ABOUT ME HOME HEM GARDEN FIRST ROSES

Show Your Green Thumb Off With These Helpful Hints for Growing a Beautiful Rose Garden
Roses should preferably be planted in the spring, but no later than early summer. They need time to get their roots deeply underground to survive cold and freezing temperatures. Also, most varieties of roses require around six hours of direct sunlight, so plan accordingly. Some roses are happy in the shade, however, so assess your garden space and watch the sunlight carefully. If you do not have lots of sun, check with the nursery to find a rose variety that is suitable for shady areas. In the spring and summer, roses need to have a lot of water. You do not necessarily need to water your rose garden every day, only regularly and deeply, allowing water to seep down into the roots. This is best accomplished by watering every few days, for a long period of time. Another good question for the experts: Which rose is best to plant? Generally, older, hardy breeds tend to be sturdier and easier to care for. Look for roses that have stood the test of time!

In an Autumun Rose Garden
Gratitude to B. Worl for turning me on to asters they will have their say a year from now.
After years of single hollyhocks, a ruffled skirt finally made it into the rose beds.
Darling Chas (chasmanthium latifolium) turns brown. Tea Roses are finally getting it on. Mum watch will they open by Saturday? Pennstemon still coming to the party. Dwarf pommegranate cute quotient. Move this grey to a better spot. Some rose canes are already thrusting toward spring. Glad oregano is back in the garden. Eleagnus against soon-to-be-gone plum leaves. Kathleen fresh and glowing. 2011 Rose Orders - Armstrong Gardens
When you live on a modest plot of land and own over 100 variety of roses, at some point you have to tell yourself enough is enough no more new roses! That point has not yet arrived.
Armstrong Gardens is a California nursery chain with a pre-order program that allows you to order roses from any of the major rose wholesalers. The roses are delivered to your local nursery. In the past, they have had problems with roses drying out prior to pickup. Now, I try to call in advance to find out exactly when the roses are arriving. Still, last year I lost a rose. (They were very nice about it and gave me store credit.) For me, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I don't have to worry about shipping fees, minimum purchase amounts or multiple vendors. Plus, the nursery is less than a 10 minute drive from my house.
My first pre-order rose is GARDEN DIRECTOR BARTJE MILLER, a dusty red hybrid tea (or perhaps a grandiflora) with a yellow reverse. I'm actually going to call it DARK NIGHT when I order my rose labels, which is the alternative name that Edmunds Roses is using. This confused me because I ordered GARDEN DIRECTOR BARTJE MILLER from Armstrong Gardens, then received the Edmunds catalog with DARK NIGHT on the cover. I very nearly ordered both! Thank goodness for

Dilip's Rose Page
Welcome to my rose page! I am an organic gardener and have been growing roses since 1995. I planted my first roses on March 11, 1995 in a 5'x8'x8" raised bed I built out of railroad timbers. I've had six hybrid teas there, but they've never thrived - early in the season I get some lovely blooms, but then the bushes look sickly. I think this is because as nearby trees leaf out, the roses just aren't getting enough sun. The creosote in the timbers can't help either. In mid-December 1998, I started working on putting in a much larger 4'x33'x7" raised bed along my driveway. It was a lot of work excavating about 18" down, getting cedar to build a frame, and filling it with great organic material - I didn't finish till around April. The new bed has some old roses as well as a variety of hybrid teas. It is a much happier garden and in the first season several of the roses have grown taller than I! From late February through mid-May 2000, I created a new 4.5' wide by 38' long bed perpendicular to the 1999 bed, and close to the front of my yard. This bed is divided into three sub-beds, each with seven hybrid teas or floribundas. It's not so difficult to grow roses - plant in a rich organic medium (try mixing well rotted horse manure, leaf mold, compost, earthworm castings, and lime)

NEW: WYNNIE'S SHAMELESS MERCHANDISING
We only have a little tiny garden in the city, but mom's been planting stuff where grass used to be for about ten years, so as you may imagine it's getting pretty crowded. She pulled out the last of the grass some time in 1997. I was not consulted about this. Mom loves to go look at other people's gardens - we plan entire vacations around garden visits - and she was thinking other people might like to see ours, too. She's been taking pictures since the day she moved in, so there are lots of before and after pictures, each with its own horror story. She calls these stories "chronicles", and they're pretty embarrassing. Mom says nobody's born knowing how to make a garden. I can tell you for sure she wasn't - we've done nearly everything at least twice! So if you're worried about doing it wrong, our chronicles should make you feel much better. Let's go for a walk! You can explore on your own if you like, using the links to the left, or you can let me show you around. Just click my picture at the bottom of every page and I'll make sure you don't miss anything.

A favorite prayer
I am , O my God, but a tiny seed which Thou has sown in the soil of Thy love, and caused to spring forth by the hand of Thy bounty. This seed craveth, therefore, in it's inmost being, for the waters of thy mercy and the living fountain of thy grace. send down upon it, from the heaven of thy loving-kindness, that which will enable it to flourish beneath thy shadow and within the borders of thy court. Thou art He Who watereth the hearts of all that have recognized thee from Thy plenteous stream and the fountain of Thy living waters.
Praised be God, the Lord of the worlds
