WELCOME TO ! ART-7 ART GALLERY
Artists Page UPDATED April 2010
We specialise in promoting and selling Russian paintings since 1989 when "perestroika" raised the curtain on the Art Scene in the USSR. All of our works are acquired directly from the artists or their close relatives and we guarantee their authenticity. We are proud to say that we have organised or taken part in numerous exhibitions in the UK including those of internationally known Art Fairs in Olympia (South Kensington). Most of the artists to be found on our site are members of the Russian Union of Artists and as such have been merited with outstanding artistic achievement. Their names can be found in major reference books on Art (Art Price Annual International, Art Sales Index, A Dictionary of 20th Century Russian and Soviet Painters, etc.). Our Artists category includes landscapes and still-lifes, portraits and genre scenes. Sizes are various and range from small sketches and studies on board to important large oil canvases which took years to create. Artistic approach is highly individual. You will find classical, impressionistic and modern art executed in different media.

Strong attendance throughout the week, coupled with a Charity Gala Evening on Friday (attended by over 800 visitors) saw good business achieved by many of the participating galleries. "Very well organised and well attended. Both the Private View and the Gala Night exceeded my expectations. Compared to other similar events, this fair was done to the highest standards. Everything had class and high quality (i.e. catalogues, stands, guests of honour). Interestingly, most of my clients and buyers were non-Russians." Diana Drapkin - Artige Gallery " A really top-quality and successful fair. I was very happy for my artists and for my gallery, with 6 sales to new clients." "A truly outstanding and well-organised fair. Our top selling artist Eva Adams sold 7 floral works, including the much admired 'Summer Ball' painting at the show. We have many clients to contact with follow up calls. Very knowledgeable customers were in attendance. The high quality of the event and general ambiance were conducive to good business. People are already asking about next year's exhibition and are requesting tickets in advance." Anastasiya Gallery "Definitely the most enjoyable fair I have taken part in. Always busy with a very diverse crowd."

    Count Semyon Romanovich Vorontsov,

    Prince Mikhail Vorontsov, 1818,
    by Sir Thomas Lawrence
    A Family History
Ivan Lindsay, the head of Lindsay Fine Art Ltd, is a descendant of the Vorontsovs, a family of statesmen, diplomats and generals. His lineage can be traced back to Count Semyon Romanovich Vorontsov (1744 - 1832), a diplomat who distinguished himself in the Russo-Turkish War and was appointed to London as a minister. Legend has it that Grigoriy Potemkin, Catherine the Great's famous favourite, was the one who persuaded the empress to send Vorontsov away in order to get rid of a potential rival. For excellent service Count Vorontsov was promoted to the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and remained in England until his death. His daughter, Ekaterina, married Lord Pembroke, while his son Prince Mikhail went back to Russia and became a successful field-marshal in the war against Napoleon, and after leading several campaigns in Russian southern territories was appointed Viceroy of Caucasus and Crimea. The Vorontsovs commissioned numerous prominent palaces across Russia and had an extensive collection of paintings and antiquities. Most of this heritage was nationalized after the revolution of 1917 and sold by the new government. What little that remained can presently be seen in several museums on the territory of the former Soviet Union, including the State Museum of Archaeology in Odessa and the State Russian Museum in St Petersburg.

The Gamborg Gallery is happy to present this collection of Russian Fine Arts, containing works of Russian Realist Art from the 20th century, with emphasis on the period from the 1930s through the 1970s. The main purpose of our gallery is to give lovers of fine arts the opportunity to enjoy some bright examples of classical Russian and Soviet art.
The art featured here belongs to different styles, such as Classical Realism, Socialist Realism, Modernism, Russian Impressionism, Avantgarde and Muralism. The exhibitions cover a wide array of topics, ranging from classical Russian landscapes, Soviet daily life, construction and heavy industry, war scenes, Moscow scenes, portraits, agriculture, sports, rural life, as well as still life and nudes.
We also present a unique collection of graphical and industrial design of the 1950s-1970s, in the form of applied arts, textile designs, tapestries, industrial work safety posters. Another speciality of the gallery is originals to children's books illustrations of the 1950s and 1960s.
The artists whose works are exhibited in this site had their most productive periods from the 1930s through the 1960s. Many of them were taught by the most famous artists of the late 19th century and the early 20th century, and they all studied at the most prestigious art schools of the Soviet Union at the time: the VKhuTeMas, the Polygraphical Institute, the Surikov Institute, the Repin Institute, MIPIDI, and the Kiev Art Institute.
