Moscow 12-13. April, representatives of the indigenous Izhma Komi or
Komi-Izhemtsy from the north of Komi republic held protest actions
before the World Bank office. They want to stop the bank from financing
an aluminum plant that they fear will bring heavy pollution to their
land. They also gathered signatures to a petition to the World Bank's
leadership.

    His research and writing has focused on women and socioeconomic development, regional planning, and sustainable community development. He is the co-coordinator of the Ghana country study and the contributor of several articles to the study (ed., H. Campfen, The World Experience in Community Development, 1997). He has also contributed articles to various journals and other publications in Canada and abroad. Stephen has served as a consultant to many organizations and communities. He worked with the Circumpolar Organization based in Ottawa, designed and taught planning and community economic development training courses to Russian indigenous peoples in Montreal and Moscow from 2001-2003. Stephen conducts research and develops community economic development strategic plans for several aboriginal communities and organizations.
