Fire Safety Lesson Plans for Kids
By Carrie Perles eHow Contributor I want to do this! What's This? If there's a fire, kids tend to panic. This fire safety lesson plan can help them feel knowledgeable about how to prevent fires. It can also give them skills that will help them in the case of a real fire.
    Fire Hazards
  • Ask students to discuss how a fire might start, prompting answers such as from a stove, from an electrical cord, from unattended matches or from a lit candle. Then have students brainstorm rules that they could use to keep each of those places safe. Explain to them that they have essentially created a list of rules that would minimize fire hazards. Add additional fire hazard prevention tips to their list, such as keeping materials away from the stove, storing matches high up and never using them without an adult's supervision.
  • Escape Routes
  • For homework, have students work with their parents to create two escape routes that they can take to get from their bedrooms out of the house in case of a fire. Allow the students to either make a list of steps or draw pictures representing the path they would take. Encourage the students to do a trial run with their parents to make sure that the escape routes would work. Make sure that the

    Why Safety is Important ?
The modern world is not the safest place to be anymore. Human beings are turning more and more selfish and are influenced with greed for money or other pleasures that they forget their moral values and act against their conscience into committing some serious crimes. Be it the constantly fluctuating market status and joblessness leading to crimes that lead to extortion or kidnapping or be it an ill urge from within to satisfy abnormal needs, the crimes that occur towards our innocent citizens of the society I.e. our kids , are plenty. Every year thousands of children are declared as victims to crimes like kidnapping, violent attacks or abuse. Children from preschool level until their teens are prone to these crimes and are easy victims to the same. As a step towards taking stringent action against such unacceptable anti-social activities borne by our innocent fellow human beings there have been attempts made to fabricate a safety lesson plan against strangers that educates the children well about the potential dangers of the society. The goal of this lesson is to make the kids realize as to who are the strangers that they should be cautious of and who are the others whom they can trust. By means of stating real life or fabricated stories that give important lessons on the kind of people they should be alarmed about and the kind of harm that they can cause them and finally what steps can the child take to avoid or self-protect in such circumstances. These lessons may also include interactive sections that include playing

These road safety objectives give teachers the key points to cover in their classrooms.

It is vital that children of all ages learn proper road safety. Children are at high risk for injuries and fatalities in vehicle and road related incidents. The following lesson plan guidelines can help children prevent such accidents and avoid behaviors that lead to accidents. OBJECTIVE 1: STOP, LOOK, AND LISTEN Statistically, the largest number of injuries among child pedestrians is the failure to stop at every street edge and looking for cars. The key point to communicate to children is to stop at the edge of the sidewalk before crossing, look left, right, and left again, and listen for oncoming cars. Children should only cross if it is clear. You can help children practice this by simulating situations in the classroom. For example, you can use masking tape inside or outside of the classroom to create a mock street. Have the children line up on one side of the tape, and have them practice looking left, right, and then left again. A remote control car can help children learn to wait for cars to pass before crossing. OBJECTIVE 2: TRAFFIC LIGHT MEANINGS OBJECTIVE 3: PEDESTRIAN SIGNS Have children create common pedestrian signs. Cut cardboard into sign shapes. A stop sign, school crossing sign, and a walk/don’t walk sign are good. If the children suggest any other signs, discuss their meanings and make these too. Once the signs are painted, tape them onto gift-wrap cardboard tubes. Secure the signs upright in coffee cans filled with sand. Place these signs in a mock street scenario. These can be made in the classroom using masking tape, or throughout the playground. Practice walking with the children, what the signs mean, and what they should do at each sign.

By jjRobinson eHow Contributor updated: October 3, 2009 I want to do this! What's This? Review site-specific safety rules before visiting and playing. Toddlers are old enough to learn about basic health and safety rules. Keeping terms simple, providing just a little information at a time, and using concrete examples and interactive play will help to make rules memorable for toddlers. Repetition of safety concepts across different situations and environments (e.g., at a pool, at a playground, at a hotel) can increase retention and understanding.
    Healthy Eating
  • Eating with friends can encourage children to try new foods. Toddlers can help with grocery shopping and meal preparation with simple activities, like mixing, choosing a new fruit, or counting items. Make food flash cards with magazine photos and index cards; talk about food colors, names, and where the foods come from. Explore healthy food in a pretend play area with empty boxes, cartons, or plastic bottles.
