MeSH Schizophrenia (pronounced /ˌskɪtsɵˈfrɛniə/ or /ˌskɪtsɵˈfriːniə/ ) is a mental disorder characterized by a disintegration of the process of thinking and of emotional responsiveness. It most commonly manifests as auditory hallucinations paranoid or bizarre delusions , or disorganized speech and thinking , and it is accompanied by significant social or occupational dysfunction. The onset of symptoms typically occurs in young adulthood, with a global lifetime prevalence of around 1.5%. Diagnosis is based on the patient's self-reported experiences and observed behavior. Genetics , early environment, neurobiology psychological and social processes appear to be important contributory factors; some recreational and prescription drugs appear to cause or worsen symptoms. Current psychiatric research is focused on the role of neurobiology, but this inquiry has not isolated a single organic cause. As a result of the many possible combinations of symptoms, there is debate about whether the diagnosis represents a single disorder or a number of discrete syndromes. Despite the etymology of the term from the Greek roots skhizein , "to split") and phrēn, phren-

    Definition:
    Schizophrenia
is a severe mental disorder characterized by delusions, hallucinations, incoherence and physical agitation; it is classified as a "thought" disorder while Bipolar Disorder is a "mood" disorder.
It is estimated that 1 percent of the world's population has schizophrenia. While there is evidence that genetic factors have a role in developing schizophrenia, other unknown causes play a significant part as well.
While Bipolar I Disorder may include psychotic features, Schizophrenia cannot include mood swings. Schizoaffective Disorder bridges the gap between Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia.

    What is Schizophrenia?

What are the Symptoms of Schizophrenia?
What Causes It? How is It Treated? ... The Center for Mental Health Services Schizophrenia is the most chronic and disabling of the severe mental disorders. More than 2 million Americans are affected by schizophrenia. Contrary to the common misconception, schizophrenia does not mean "split or multiple personality." And, although people with schizophrenia often are portrayed as violent on television and in movies, that is seldom the case. In fact, people with schizophrenia are more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators, and they tend to be shy and socially withdrawn. The illness, which may impair a person's ability to manage emotions, interact with others, and think clearly, typically develops in the late teens or early twenties. Symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, disordered thinking, and social withdrawal. Most people with schizophrenia continue to suffer chronically or episodically throughout their lives. Even between bouts of active illness, lost opportunities for careers and relationships, stigma, residual symptoms, and medication side effects often plague those with the illness. One of every 10 people with schizophrenia eventually commits suicide.

Because the causes of schizophrenia are still unknown, treatments focus on eliminating the symptoms of the disease. Treatments include antipsychotic medications and various psychosocial treatments. Antipsychotic medications Antipsychotic medications have been available since the mid-1950's. The older types are called conventional or "typical" antipsychotics. Some of the more commonly used typical medications include:

    The below comes from www.patholliday.com.
Deliverance/Schizophrenia/MPD/SRA and Your Higher Self/Diabolic Attacks on Mind Pat Holliday releases a new controversial book, Deliverance SCHIZOPHRENIA - DOUBLE MINDED MPD/SRA. It's not just interesting, it is powerful. Her new book is another viewpoint concerning the problem of Schizophrenic Double Minded. She asks, Is it a chemical imbalance, physical, mental or a spiritual problem? She says, "The answer is yes, yes, yes, yes!" The book describes those who are classified as Schizophrenics in need of spiritual deliverance. Jacksonville, FL. (PRWEB) January 4, 2008 Dr. Pat Holliday's new book, "Deliverance/Schizophrenia/MPD" shows that people can be free and healed through the power of Jesus. These hostile spiritual experiences seem impossible but are true testimonies as told to her, you will be amazed. She says, "This is not a book to rant and rage against the medical field concerning psychological and psychiatric medication. The book argues the hypothesis that spiritual restoration and deliverance could be another healing tool for schizophrenics." For instance, Dr. Holliday cites a recent e-mail: G. R, from Germany writes, "Since the year 2004 ... I was struggling with MPD. I searched for help at my home church and other ministries, but they had no idea how to help me and some gave me false counsel such as, ('integrating what they called alters into my personality'). She did not find healing through these psychological sessions. Usually, Christians are trying to practice these highly technical psychological practices are untrained people. I thought that I must stay in this situation until the end of my life, but our Lord has another plan."
