Terrain: About half of the islands are granitic in origin, with narrow coastal strips and central ranges of hills rising to 905 m. The other half are coral atolls, many uninhabitable.
    Climate: Tropical marine.
Geography of Seychelles Seychelles is located in the Indian Ocean about 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles) east of Kenya. The nation is an archipelago of 115 beautiful, tropical islands with two distinct collections of islands, some comprised of granite and others of coral. The Mahe Group consists of 42 granite islands, all within a 56-kilometer (35 mi.) radius of the main island of Mahe. These islands are rocky, and most have a narrow coastal stripe and a central range of hills rising as high as 914 meters (3,000 ft.). Mahe is the largest island9,142 sq. km (55-sq. mi.)and is the site of Victoria, the capital. The coral islands are flat with elevated coral reefs at different stages of formation. They have no fresh water and can sustain human life only with difficulty. The climate is equable and healthy, although quite humid, as the islands are small and subject to marine influences. The temperature varies little throughout the year. Temperatures on Mahe vary from 240C to 29.90C (750F-850F), and rainfall ranges from 288 centimeters (90 in.) annually at Victoria to 355 centimeters (140 in.) on the mountain slopes. Precipitation is somewhat less on the other islands. During the coolest months, July and August, it drops to as low as 700F. The southeast trade winds blow regularly from May to November, and this is the most pleasant time of the year. The hot months are from December to April, with higher humidity (80). March and April are the hottest months, but the temperature seldom exceeds 880F. Most of the islands lie outside the cyclone belt, so high winds are rare.

The Seychelles are a group of 115 islands in the centre of the Indian Ocean, about 2,000 km east of Africa and to the north of Madagascar, lying mostly between 4 and 5 degrees south of the equator. The archipelago lies outside the cyclone belt so the weather is stable all year round, with an average maximum daily temperature of 29 degrees. Rain falls most heavily in December and January. There are two groups of islands: the 32 quite closely grouped Granitic islands include Mahe, the principal island, while the 83 Coraline islands are spread out over a wide area between the Granitic group and Madagascar. Mahe itself is 27km in length and 12 kms wide with a total area of 154 sq kms; it is mountainous, rising to a peak of 905 metres. The Seychelles environment is one of the most unspoiled in the world with many species of birds, fish and rich flora, some of which are unique. Victoria, the capital, on Mahe has the deepest port in the Indian ocean. The international airport on Mahe has direct flights to many cities in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and the Far East.

Seychelles lies between approximately 4ºS and 10ºS and 46ºE and 54ºE. The nation is an archipelago of 155 tropical islands, some granite and some coral . the majority of which are small and uninhabited. The landmass is only 457 km², but the islands are spread over an Exclusive Economic Zone of 1,374,000 km². About 90 percent of the population of 82,500 live on Mahé , 9 percent on Praslin and La Digue . Around a third of the land area is the island of Mahé and a further third the atoll of Aldabra There are two distinct regions, the granitic islands, the world's only oceanic islands of granitic rock and the coralline outer islands. The granite islands are the world’s oldest ocean islands, while the outer islands are mainly very young, though the Aldabra group and St Pierre (Farquhar Group) are unusual, raised coral islands that have emerged and submerged several times during their long history, the most recent submergence dating from about 125,000 years ago.

Geography of the Seychelles Geography The Seychelles form a widely scattered archipelago of over 100 islands, in the Indian Ocean Northeast of Madagascar. The islands fall in two main physical types. The islands of the central group, including the main island Mahe, are formed from granite, and consist of a mountainous heart surrounded by a flat coastal strip. The outer islands are made up of coral accretions at various stages of formation, from reefs to atolls. These are generally smaller and almost entirely flat, lying only a few meters above sea level. Most of these islands have no water, and only a few are inhabited. The main islands enjoy high humidity and rainfall, feeding the lush tropical rain forest. Wildlife includes a rare giant land turtle and colourful reef animals such as the Green Sea Turtle. The islands have in the past suffered from human incursions, but are now strictly preserved and maintained. The islands are valued greatly for their unique forests and wildlife, some of which is only to be found within these islands. Society Occupying a strategic position on the Europe-India sea route, the Seychelles were annexed by France in 1756 to support its colony on Mauritius. It passed to Britain after the Napoleon Wars. Most of the people are of mixed racial descent, and speak the Creole dialect. The Seychelles became independent in 1976 with James R. Mancham as president and Albert Rene as prime minister. In 1979 Albert Rene also took over the presidency, and has instituted a multiparty system. He has been re-elected several times, and has remained in office since 1979.

    GEOGRAPHY
Seychelles Table of Contents The archipelago consists of 115 islands and thirty prominent rock formations scattered throughout a self-proclaimed exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of more than 1.35 million square kilometers of ocean. Some forty islands are granitic and lie in a ninety-kilometer radius from Mahé, the main island. The remaining islands are coralline, stretching over a 1,200-kilometer radius from Île aux Vaches in the northeast to the Aldabra Atoll in the southwest. The islands are all small the aggregate land area is only 444 square kilometers, about twoand -a-half times the size of Washington, D.C. Mahé is twenty-five kilometers long and no more than eight kilometers wide. It contains the capital and only city, Victoria, an excellent port. Victoria lies approximately 1,600 kilometers east of Mombasa, Kenya; 2,800 kilometers southwest of Bombay; 1,700 kilometers north of Mauritius; and 920 kilometers northeast of Madagascar. The only other important islands by virtue of their size and population are Praslin and La Digue, situated about thirty kilometers to the northeast of Mahé. The granitic islands are the peaks of the submarine Mascarene Plateau, a continental formation theorized to be either a part of Africa separated when Asia began to drift away from the original single continent of Gondwanaland, or the remnants of a microcontinent that existed up to the beginning of the Tertiary Period, approximately 50 million years ago. The granitic islands are characterized by boulder-covered hills and mountains as high as 940 meters rising abruptly from the sea. Elsewhere, narrow coastal plains extend to the base of the foothills. Extensively developed coral reefs are found mainly on the east coasts because of the southwest trade winds and equatorial current. Ninety-nine percent of the population is located on the granitic islands, and most are on Mahé.

    Seychelles Geography
Seychelles Geography is all surrounded by the Indian Ocean. The archipelago of Seychelles of over 100 islands are pretty much scattered. The combination of beautiful sandy beaches and crystal clear water is the bliss of Geography of Seychelles.
Geography about Seychelles includes two main physical types. The central islands accommodating the main island Mahe and the surrounding smaller islands, which are basically coastal strips. These islands are full of corals. Mahe, the capital city of Seychelles is about 200 square kilometer. The coral islands have vast difference from the gigantic ones. The huge islands are actually peaks of the submarine Mascarene Plateau, which is a part of Africa. On the other hand the smaller islands hardly rise above the water level.
Seychelles Geography gives the best of rainfall to the central island, which is turn helps in lush green vegetation. The presence of turtles in the coral reefs is a sight to watch. This attracts tourists from all over the world.
Flora and fauna are of great importance in the Seychelles Geography. Flora are the plants of the islands, which give the green touch to Seychelles while fauna is basically the reptiles, fishes and birds. They complete the nature of Seychelles. The blue water and the white sand are the magic and beauty of the nature, to which the wildlife adds spice.

    Introduction
the Republic of Seychelles is an archipelago comprising of some 116 islands. Positioned in the Indian Ocean off the African continent mainland, it finally attained liberty from British dominion in the year 1976. however, it was not alien to war and custody before the British took over either, as the countries of France and Britain indulged in quite a tussle for the possession of the islands which ended in the year 1814. Even despite being an independent nation, the island country was unable to conduct elections before 1993 due to the Socialist rule.
