Home Astrology . Love Match . Dating . Wedding Date . Baby Gender . Baby Name . Marriage . Lucky Year . Lucky BedRoom Menu The Chinese Legend of White Snake 2008 Year of Brown Pig 2001 Year of White Snake This is a love story about a man and a white snake. The first short tale was found during the Tang Dynasty (618 AD). That’s a cautionary, vigilant and tragic story of a man in love with a lady in white. The scenes of West Lake and Thunder Pagoda were added and the central theme was established during the Song Dynasty (960 AD). The entire story was completed during the Ming Dynasty (1368 AD). It was rewritten to beautify characters in some episodes in Ching Dynasty (1644 AD). Today we find that the stories are somewhat different depending on which source has been used, because of rewriting. The complete story should have at least 16 episodes. The following is the shortest abstract of the story. Once upon a time, a white snake and a green snake who had magical power in the Mountain Er-Mei and had transformed into two beautiful young ladies, on white, one green. They met a man named Hsu Sheng at the West Lake of Hang-Zhou city. The white snake fell in love with Hsu Sheng at first sight. They got married soon after.

With 31 species and 64 subspecies there is a vast range of vibrantly coloured animals to choose from.
    Housing
The general rule when it comes to choosing the size of enclosure is - that the snake should be allowed to be able to fully stretch out its body in the space provided therefore the length of the enclosure should match the length of the snake. My personal recommendation is that the enclosure can never be large enough (I currently keep sexed groups of 3-4 snakes in vivaria that measure 144x30x40cm). Garter snakes are very active and will spend hours exploring their enclosure. Providing plenty of climbing opportunities will help to maximise the space provided. Giving your garter places to hide will help it to feel more secure. Ground cover can also be provided by means of plastic plants.
Substrates should also be chosen carefully. Garters love to burrow, defecate frequently and are ferocious feeders. You should therefore choose a substrate that is not sharp, easy to clean and not small enough to be ingested.

Tel: 1-800-385-9712 defenders@mail.defenders.org STATUS: There are about 2,700 species of snakes, of these 375 are venomous. In the United States, ten species are listed as threatened and seven species are listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act.
DESCRIPTION: Snakes are elongated, limbless, flexible reptiles. Their body shape depends on the habitat in which they live. Aquatic snakes usually have a flattened body; those living in trees are long and slender with a prehensile tail while burrowing snakes tend to be compact. Snakes are found in a huge range of colors, from bright to dull. Brightly colored snakes are usually venomous, their coloration serving as a warning to predators, while dull colored snakes use their coloration for camouflage. Some snakes mimic the color and pattern of venomous snakes.
SIZE: Brahminy blind snakes are the smallest snake at two inches in length. The anaconda can reach lengths of 38 feet. LIFESPAN: In captivity, some species will live as long as 50 years.

Basic Snake Information
Snakes are elongated, legless animals with dry, scale-covered skin. Their skin is unusually elastic, which allows it to stretch when large prey items are swallowed. Snakes are rather unique because of these features and because they lack moveable eyelids and external ear openings. Snakes may be only a few inches to several yards long.
Snakes inhabit a wide variety of ecologic habitats: land, trees,u nderground, fresh water, and salt water. They are found on every continent except Antarctica. No native snakes are found on the islands of Hawaii, Iceland, New Zealand and Ireland.
SELECTING A PET SNAKE
Some snakes are rare, endangered and protected by law. These snakes may only be kept by zoos and legitimate herpetologists with the appropriate permits. This is also the case with venomous snakes, which should not, under any circumstances, be kept by the average hobbyist.
The most common snakes kept by enthusiasts are the many and varied constrictor species (boas, pythons, rat and milk snakes, etc) and the racer, gopher and garter species. The husbandry and dietary requirements for these types of snakes vary considerably. Furthermore, some of the same species (notably the boa constrictors and pythons) reach very large sizes in captivity, and their considerable space requirements must be anticipated.

General Facts About Snakes
by Vincent Madsen In the previous section I covered the history of snakes, how they got to be what they are now. But what are they? How do they live their lives, where do they live? This is what I'll address in this section. Snakes have a long, narrow body. Their internal organs are made to fit their long and narrow body type. Snakes have only one functioning lung, so it's vital that their environment is clean and not polluted. An interesting fact to know; to find out how many "vertabreas" the snake has, you can count the number of belly scales. Usually there will be a new scale for each vertebrea. It's jaw is evolved so that the snake can swallow prey many times its size. The bottom part of the jaw is not locked together, as it is in most other animals, but it can be separated into two parts. This way its mouth can open up, swallow the prey, and then pull its jaw together again. When the snake does this, it looks like it's yawning, opening the mouth up wide and shutting it again. Their vision is just awesome, they don't see like we do; rather they see heat and movements. They also don't hear anything but very low frequencies, so talking to a snake will not work. You can shout your lungs out, the snake cannot hear you. It does however feel the vibration, so stomping your feet in the ground will definitely get its attention. If you ever seen a cobra hypnotized by someone playing a flute, you can be sure that the person is stomping his foot in the ground or similar, as the snake would not hear the flute.

77. Snake Education.com - General Information
General information about Florida and S. Eastern United States.
http://www.snakeeducation.com/snakes/general.htm
IDENTIFICATION OF VENOMOUS AND NON VENOMOUS SNAKES IS VERY IMPORTANT WHEN THE AREA YOU CAMP IN MAY BE INFESTED WITH SNAKES. THE WEATHER AND TIME OF YEAR ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOR SNAKE OBSERVATION. THE AREA YOU CAMP IN IS ALSO IMPORTANT ON WHETHER OR NOT YOU WILL SEE SNAKES. IN-GROUND POOLS, MULCHED AREAS AND AREAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION ARE ALSO GOOD FOR REPTILE WATCHING. Living in Florida is a good opportunity to see snakes. With the unique weather Florida has it's a good area for many different snake types. Remember, if all the snakes were to disappear from the earth then we would be over run with rodents that carry many different diseases and they would be eating the crops that feed you, me and the live stock. This would add up to: No burgers / steaks, No vegetables, More diseases, More hunger and then some! The EASTERN DIAMONDBACK RATTLE SNAKE
The lethal venom is Hemo-toxin (attacks the body through the blood stream).
Identification: Slit eyes (pupils), large head (venom glands on each side). Rattle!, diamond design on back, rough scales. The CORAL SNAKE is one of the most deadliest snake in the United States.

I fixed MANY things, as you can see... I am drawing all of my art, using photos for reference on some. How do you like my navigation bar? *melts* I think it is so cool....
Wow... I haven't updated in half a year!!! *sigh* School is so time consuming.
Xena got over her non eating spell. It was just a phase; I think she was looking for a mate. She is doing great now.
Ahhh.... The NC Reptile show... I look forward to it so much! I went this weekend and saw Rich Zuchowski (Serpenco) and Bill and Kathy Love (Blue Chameleon Ventures and Corn-Utopia), as well as many more amazing dealers. Both breeders had great stock this year, but Rich did not seem to have many "normals", I wonder why. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and if you have reptile shows near you, I urge you to go to one!!
My site will be going through renovations, content updates, and reformatting. This will be happening very slowly, however, but you should look forward to it.
