Everyone Plays Balanced Teams Open Registration Positive Coaching Good Sportsmanship Football - Soccer History History of Soccer
Part 1: The early origins of Soccer
Football in various forms had been played through-out the world long before the nineteenth-century middle-class mania for rules and regulations. In America it had been popular among native peoples before the Europeans arrived, and it maintained this popularity as the Europeans brought their village games with them to the New World. "Soccer", or association football, from which the name soccer was later derived by Americans.
In reality there was no first game of football, for its origins go back to the beginning of recorded history: in preindustrial societies it was often a "mob" game of village against village, lacking written rules and celebrated as part of a fertility rite or to mark particular seasons of the year; more sophisticated kicking games were to be found in societies as diverse as ancient China (which boasts the oldest rules resembling today's games).
As Britain changed from an agrarian to an industrial society beginning about 1750, soccer was adapted to fit suit the narrow streets and hard surfaces of the new urban communities. Improvements in roads and transportation allowed games to be played outside the local village, and as steam trains started to link the ever-growing towns of Britain, it became possible to play on a national basis the games that the middle class favored and promoted.

History of Soccer
The History of Soccer dates back to a long time, but gains momentum from 1863. The Soccer balls, skills and drills are mentioned. Since many years soccer has been a passion for many. South American Indians were conversant with a light elasticized ball. In early times, balls were made of stitched up cloth, animal and human skulls, pig or cow bladders or human heads. In the Ts'in and Han Dynasties, animal skin balls were used. As per pre-medieval legend, a whole village would kick a skull to a closeby village square. This village would try to kick it back to the first village square.

Soccer ball

The soccer ball is an air-filled sphere covered in leather or other suitable material. The circumference is 68-70 cm or 27-28 inches. The weight is 410-450 gram or 14-16 ounces. The ball is inflated to a pressure of 60-110 kPa or 8.5-15.6 psi. Size 3 is meant for team handball. Size 5 is the standard ball. Modern footballs are made from 32 panels of waterproofed leather or plastic. There are 20 regular hexagons and 12 regular pentagons. The 32-panel configuration resembles the truncated icosahedron. The difference is that it is spherical as the faces bulge due to the air pressure. The official FIFA World Cup held in Germany in 2006 had the 14-panel Adidas + Teamgeist football. This is a thermally bonded machine-pressed ball. For the World Cups in the future, FIFA aims at alternating between Nike and Adidas for match balls.

History of Soccer - Introduction Almost 150 have passed since soccer was officially born in a Tavern in London, under the pens of several clubs that formed the Football Association and wrote up the Laws of the Game. In such a short time, soccer went on from a local phenomenon around England, to an international game that is watched and loved by close to 3 billion people worldwide.
Soccer sparked countless of legendary stories throughout its existence and I'll try to take you on a historical cruise over this section of the website, where I'll cover the roots and evolution of several aspects of the game. So without further adu, the articles!
    History of Soccer
The answer to the question "when was soccer invented" isn't as easy to answer as you might think. Sure, the modern version of the game was standardized by the English in the 19 th century, as they created the first rules for the game of soccer (the Laws of the Game in 1863), the first national team and the first Football Association, a governing body for English soccer that will soon be copied by many other nations.
However, early versions of the game can be traced back to ancient times, with the Chinese playing a rather blunt kicking game back in the second century BC, or with Mezoamerican cultures practicing a game that was a combination of soccer and basketball. You can read all about the complex history of soccer in this article.
