The first grossed astronomical numbers, and the second is sure to do the same if not better because it repeats the elements that made the first one so good. There is something about Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire, Seabiscuit Spider-Man ) that everybody can relate to. This time, he's worse off than before. He still pines after Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Mona Lisa Smile ). His duties as Spider-Man have taken a toll on other aspects of his life. He is late to his pizza delivery job, and on the verge of failing his classes. These are very mundane problems for somebody who can scale walls like a spider. Parker has to decide between his public life as Peter and his superhero life as Spider-Man. When he learns that Watson is engaged, he realizes what he may be missing and decides to give up his superhero persona. Things quickly take a turn for the worse. Crime runs rampant, and the latest super villain to make the rounds is Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina, Coffee and Cigarettes My Life Without Me ). As a scientist, Otto Octavius was researching fusion with the help of four mechanical arms enhanced with artificial intelligence. A failed experiment fused the arms to his body, and their intelligence battles with his own. He wants to replicate the experiment, and nothing can stop him. Simmons, Bruce Campbell, Ted Raimi Länge: 116 min Website: www.spider-man-der-film.de Genau wie " Der Herr der Ringe " ist auch bei der Spider-Man-Verfilmung die Tatsache bemerkenswert, dass hier kein aalglatter Hollywood-Routinier in den Regie-Sessel gesetzt wurde, sondern jemand, der sich seine ersten Sporen durch ziemlich drastischen Horrorfilmen verdient hat. Während der neuseeländische Tolkien-Verfilmer Peter Jackson zunächst mit den ebenso preiswerten wie blutigen Schockern "Bad Taste" und "Braindead" auf sich aufmerksam machte, erreichte dies Sam Raimi durch seine Trilogie um den von Bruce Campbell gespielten Ash und dem "Buch der Toten". Bei all diesen Filmen handelte es sich um keine gewaltigen Blockbuster, doch trotzdem wurde immerhin Sharon Stone auf Raimi aufmerksam. Diese produzierte gerade einen Western in dem sie auch die Hauptrolle spielte. Der aufregende visuelle Stil den Raimi für seine Horror-Schocker gefunden hatte, schien genau der richtige für "Schneller als der Tod" zu sein. Auch bei der Wahl ihrer Partner erwies Sharon Stone visionäres Geschick, denn als ihre Duellgegner agierten neben Gene Hackman noch Leonardo di Caprio (vor "Titanic") und Russell Crowe (vor "Gladiator"). Zwar wurde auch "Schneller als der Tod" kein gewaltiger Erfolg, aber dank seiner sorgfältigen Inszenierung war der Film eine sehr gute Visitenkarte für Raimi der anschließend den kleinen (aber feinen) schwarzen Thriller "

Daraufhin findet ein Thanksginving-Dinner statt, bei dem Norman Osborn durch eine Wunde an Peters Hals erkennt, dass Peter Parker Spider-Man ist. Um Spider-Man herauszufordern, attackiert er am nächsten Tag Tante May, die daraufhin ins Krankenhaus eingeliefert wird. Anschließend entführt er Mary Jane und verabredet sich mit Spider-Man auf der Queensboro Bridge. Bei der Beerdigung teilt Harry daher Peter mit, er werde sich an ihm rächen. Mary Jane gesteht Peter ihre Liebe und küsst ihn. Durch den Kuss wird Mary Jane bewusst, wer sich hinter der Maske des Spider-Man verbirgt. Doch Peter, der sich an den Ratschlag seines Onkels Ben erinnert, will Mary Jane beschützen, indem er seine wahren Gefühle für sie verbirgt. Er geht alleine davon.
