My Account Of Life With A Spinal Cord Injury and Paralysis
On July 16th 1994, my life took a dramatic turn, I had a low speed fall from a mountain bike, which left me with a broken neck at the C2,3 and 4 vertebrae and total body paralysis. I was completely paralysed from the neck down fighting for my life. I was now destined to spend my life as a quadriplegic or tetraplegic, with none of the body and muscle movements I used to take for granted. Spinal cord injury was going to become a central point of my life. Spinal Injuries occur suddenly and in most cases without warning. Each day hundreds of people worldwide and their families and friends are coming to terms with a new spinal injury and paralysis. This website is intended to help other spinally injured persons and people close to them, after their lives are affected by this devastating disability. However, I know now that life doesn't stop after a spinal cord injury and in fact it can go on getting better
The site now contains some nice community message boards and an easy to use chat room
My life has changed beyond comprehension since my spinal cord injury, I honestly believe that I am a better person now because of my experience. If you would like to find out more please come inside

briansternberg.com Living with Spinal Cord Injury Home My First Year Accomplishments Therapy and Exercise SCI Links ... Comments/Questions INTRODUCTION Click Here for the Latest Update (April 2006) My name is Brian Sternberg. On October 1st, 2001 I had a bicycle accident which resulted in a C2-C3 spinal cord injury. I thought it would be a good idea to put down in words my experiences so I won't forget the details. I also want to document my progress and achievements, which I hope to achieve through intense physical therapy and exercise. Sharing this with others is just another step towards coping with my condition. Hopefully, this will also help other people who have recently had a spinal cord injury. Before my accident, I led a very busy life. I was married to a wonderful woman whom I loved to spend time with. I owned and managed my own business. I played mandolin and guitar in a bluegrass band. For the pure physical challenge, I spent a lot of time running and biking. (The last race I participated in was a duathlon version of a half ironman.) The thought of having a disabling accident never crossed my mind. But, here I am. I've had to confront and accept the fact that my life has changed. It's not easy. In many ways I am very lucky. My wife Lois has stayed by my side throughout this ordeal. I still own and manage my business. I have become somewhat of an expert at using Dragon NaturallySpeaking to control my computer. In fact, I have designed this web site entirely by voice. I have some movement and feeling throughout my body, so I am able to exercise and slowly increase my strength. I have learned to be thankful for what I do have, and make the best of it.

Spinal cord trauma
Spinal cord trauma is damage to the spinal cord. It may result from direct injury to the cord itself or indirectly from damage to surrounding bones, tissues, or blood vessels.
Causes
Spinal cord trauma can be caused by any number of injuries to the spine. They can result from motor vehicle accidents, falls, sports injuries (particularly diving into shallow water), industrial accidents, gunshot wounds, assault, and other causes. A minor injury can cause spinal cord trauma if the spine is weakened (such as from rheumatoid arthritis or osteoporosis ) or if the spinal canal protecting the spinal cord has become too narrow (spinal stenosis) due to the normal aging process. Direct injury, such as cuts, can occur to the spinal cord, particularly if the bones or the disks have been damaged. Fragments of bone (for example, from broken vertebrae, which are the spine bones) or fragments of metal (such as from a traffic accident or gunshot) can cut or damage the spinal cord. Direct damage can also occur if the spinal cord is pulled, pressed sideways, or compressed. This may occur if the head, neck, or back are twisted abnormally during an accident or injury.

Reality writing at it's finest! 'What's Happening' **Happy Holiday’s 2009/2010! continued 7 Signs of a Leader We all need leaders in our lives: mentors, people to look up to, people that simply get it. Leaders inspire us, help us accomplish our dreams, and teach by example. Leaders make us better people and give us an ideal to strive for.

The measure of leadership is always influence; leaders have an amazing ability to influence our lives. Leaders lead wherever they go; they lead at work, at home, or wherever they happen to be.

So after that intro, it's easy to conclude that being a leader is not an easy task; it requires a collection of very important skills that have to be ingrained into your daily practice - your soul.

Below are the 7 Signs of a Leader. How many of these do you believe you have? More importantly perhaps, do you look up to someone today that doesn't have many of these traits? Are they really the person to look up to? The choices you make today and the people you surround yourself with will determine much of your path in life; choose wisely.
