    Spring Crafts for Children
By Drea Christopher eHow Contributor updated: January 26, 2010 I want to do this! What's This?
  • Help your kids swing into spring by creating vibrant floral crafts that capture the images and colors of the season. Design decorative and functional projects using basic craft supplies and recycled materials such as soup cans and egg cartons. Display the whimsical creations on a bookshelf, in your garden or in a bright window for a touch of spring all year long.
  • Flower Pots
  • Let your kids create colorful tin can pots to grow flower seeds, fresh herbs or simply hold pencils, spare change or trinkets around the house. Prepare recycled soup, canned vegetable or coffee cans by washing them with warm water and dishwashing soap and drying them completely. If the can has a sharp rim inside, use sandpaper or a metal file to dull the edge.
Instruct the kids to coat the can with two to three layers of acrylic paint, letting the paint dry between coats. Decorate the tins with designs applied with acrylic paint and foam stamps sold at scrapbooking and craft stores. Add dimensional touches to the spring craft such as self-adhesive foam shapes, plastic gems or buttons.

    Ideas For Spring Crafts...
Simple spring crafts ideas are discussed in this article... There are web sites that supply templates for popular images that symbolize spring such as baby chicks, birds and flowers that you can color online with a painting program or print out and paint or color yourself. These types of images can also be decoupaged onto objects such as candleholders or boxes to create unique, yet useful crafts this spring such as Kleenex boxes and votive lights. One of the most popular of spring crafts is the homemade hummingbird feeder. Here are a few simple ideas for making your own homemade feeder spring crafts. The Frisbee feeder is simply a red Frisbee that is turned upside down so that the birds can use the curved edge of the Frisbee as a perch. You can drill holes in the Frisbee and hang it with brightly colored yarn from a tree and/or decorate the rim with dangling red ribbons, glitter and flowers. You can also sit this kind of feeder down on a table. If you decide to use this kind of feeder remember to empty it every day and replace it with fresh homemade nectar. To make milk carton feeder punch a hole about the size of a matchstick into the side of a very clean, used milk carton. Make sure the hole is near the bottom of the feeder. Cover the carton with images of red or pink flowers cut out of a magazine. Tape long dangling red ribbons to the bottom of the feeder and hang it in a tree.

        Dragon Kite
Straighten the hanger, bend it around the top of the dowel and then down along the perimeter of the kite. Use bricks or books to hold the wire in place. Starting at the top of the kite, tightly fold and tape the tabs around the wire, alternating from left to right. Trim the excess wire with wire cutters. Tips: HOW TO LAUNCH THE KITE: Despite that classic image from childhood, running is not the best way to launch a kite. Instead, release it from your hand as you slowly let out line or have a helper stand 100 feet downwind and release the kite as you reel in the line. (Be sure to be far away from power lines.) In strong winds, move the swivel up 1/2 inch on the bridle; in light, down 1/2 inch. If the kite spins and dives, lengthen the tail.

        Spring Butterflies
Color small bowls of water with food coloring Using an eye dropper or a straw, scatter drops of colored water onto round coffee filters and watch the colors bleed and blend. While the filters dry draw eyes and body details on wooden clothespins. Gather each coffee filter up in the center and clip with the clothespin. Make antennea for each butterfly by inserting a pipe cleaner into the end of the clothespin and twisting it secure. Bend the ends of the pipe cleaner to make it look realistic. You can use tissue paper instead of coffee filters for a multi-layered effect. Decorate with sequins and buttons. Make caterpillars from green pom-poms glued to a large paper leaf (with a bite taken out of it) for a before and after exhibit.
