I have 2 other Square Dance Programs that are animated and to make sure that I call the movements correct I check them all. These programs will write material to call a dance.......I like yours best to show each movement and the movement only...this will make you understand how the movement works and the body flow...."

Modern Western square dance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search Modern Western square dance (also called Western square dance contemporary Western square dance modern American square dance or modern square dance ) is one of two types of square dancing , along with traditional square dance . As a dance form, modern Western square dance grew out of traditional Western dance . The term "Western square dance", for some, is synonymous with "cowboy dance" or traditional Western square dance. Therefore this article uses the term "modern Western square dance" to describe the contemporary non-historical dance which grew out of the traditional dance. Modern Western square dance, like traditional square dance, is directed by a square dance caller . In modern Western square dance the caller strings together a sequence of individual square dance calls to make a figure or sequence. These calls are the building blocks of the choreography that is danced by the individuals, square dancers , in the squares. There are eight people (four couples) in each square; at a dance there may be many squares. Generally speaking, each of these squares dances independently of each other, with the exception of specialty or "gimmick" dances, where there might be some crossover of dancers from one square to another. The square functions as a "dance team" for the duration of a square dance tip , a group of dances usually separated from the next tip by a pause during which the dancers regroup into new squares. A square dance tip is usually composed of a combination of

Square Dance History in the U.S.
The following article was found in the archives of MACA (Mid Atlantic Challenge Association). The square dance is an American institution. It began in New England when the first settlers and the immigrant groups that followed, brought with them their various national dances, which we now call folk dances, but which were the popular dances of the day in the countries of their origin - the schottische, the quadrille, the jigs and reels and the minuet, to name a few. After a week of toil in building new homes and carving homes out of virgin forest, the settlers would gather in the community center on Saturday evening and enjoy dancing their old-world favorites. As the communities grew and people of different backgrounds intermingled, so did their dances. As the repertoire increased, it became increasingly difficult for the average person to remember the various movements. In almost any group, however, there would be at least one extrovert, the hail-fellow-well-met, the life-of-the-party type, with a knack for remembering the dance figures. With typical Yankee ingenuity, the settlers let this person cue or prompt them in case they happened to forget what came next. In due course, the prompter (or figure caller, as he became known) acquired a repertoire of various colorful sayings or patter that he could intersperse with the cues. Quite often he would learn the dances of other communities and he would teach them to the group. Some of these men were quite ingenious and developed dances and routines of their own, including dances for groups of four couples. This is the manner in which square dancing and its director (or caller) developed.

SQUARE DANCING
by Karl Arnold Belser
(Abstracted from the August 2003 issue of 50+ Magazine)
The square dance caller sang, "Allemande left with your left hand. Right to your partner, right and left grand."
A square consists of four couples, one couple on each side, and there may be many squares at a square dance. The dancers are told what to do by a caller who uses a special language that is always spoken in English, even in other countries. Doe-see-doe, grand-square, spin-chain through, and weave the ring are among the 100 plus-level calls. The caller sings a song and interjects the commands as he goes. Each call is relatively simple by itself, but when given in sequence at a high speed, performing the desired movements without breaking down the square is challenging, and fun.
A square dance is made up of a number of tips, and each tip consists of two-parts. The first is the patter in which the caller challenges the dancers to follow his unexpected sequence of commands. The second is the singing call in which the command sequence is always the same for that song. Each tip is composed of different couples, so that every couple gets the opportunity to dance with every other. The callers are excellent singers and could even have nationwide reputations.
In addition to weekly club square dances, there are Saturday hoedowns. These are announced by the
