4D - Fauve Moderne/Sex Appeal 10" + bonus tracks
(Click on the picture to download.)
Big up user oldskool, who generously hooked me up with these tracks! About the source for one of the bonus tracks he'd like to add: "This (even back in 1982) ultra rare cassette was a gift from Andrea Kühler, one of my very, very best friends, who died just three weeks ago."
A couple of moons ago, I used the flexi-disc version of 4D's Fauve Moderne for one of my compilations of German post-punk and new wave . In the comments, oldskool provided some additional information, including what probably amounts to the complete 4D discography . I did a bit more digging (well, I mainly followed the links from this discogs entry and I'll probably lose a few nerd points now for not having done so the first time around) and unearthed the following:
4D were a shortlived project involving two of the guys from wacky German synth-pop outfit Supersempfft/Roboterwerke (read up on them over here ), who custom built one of the first programmable drum computers. I actually used to own

A New Song and Dance Routine
America's Favorite Pastime
It's A Party ...
Square dancing is party time every time you do it. Square dancing brings people together for fun and fellowship-even when learning how. The fun starts right on the very first night. You meet new people and make new friends. And the fun keeps right on going as long as you do-most square dance groups meet once a week. It's a wonderful way to share common interests with other people, and to escape the worry and pressures of today's busy world.
It's a Challenge...
Modern square dancing is a mental and physical challenge. It is dancing, it is thinking, it is teamwork. You can't do it by one's or two's. Moving in rhythm to the music keeps you physically fit. Reacting quickly to the square dance caller's calls keeps you mentally on your toes. And your team of eight dancers depends on you to keep those toes moving.
Learning the basic steps is easy. Experienced square dance callers teach you the moves and the names of the calls that you dance. You practice those moves until they feel as natural as walking. Then even more fun begins as you join a dub. Your square dance caller combines the basic moves and steps into whole dance patterns. You and your teammates follow the calls-each arm turn brings a surprise-and as the pattern concludes all the arm turns bring you back to your partner.
It's American Folk Art, too...

The State Folk Dance Conspiracy: Fabricating a National Folk Dance
by Julie Mangin
Originally published in the Old-Time Herald , v.4(7) p.9-12, Spring 1995
Introduction
Modern Western square dance clubs are coordinating across the U.S. to have square dancing declared the state folk dance of all fifty states. At the time of this writing, there are twenty-two states that have passed legislation designating square dance as the "state folk dance." Many of these bills were passed after 1988, which was the last time that a bill was in the U.S. Congress to designate square dancing as the national folk dance. It appears that having failed on a national level, modern Western square dancers are trying to accomplish the same thing on a state by state basis. By contrast, traditional square dances are usually open to any member of the community, with no membership or certification required. Since most traditional communities get by with no more than a few dozen calls in their repertoire, lessons are not required, although some dances may feature a short workshop before the dance or "walk throughs" during the dance itself. The dancers wear street clothes, not square dance costumes. Finally, true folk dances are always linked to a folk music tradition. Recorded music is a rarity at traditional dances.

Square Dancing 101 This document contains basic square dancing instructions for the Unnamed Facility Square Dancing Club. We dance pretty much the same as other square dancers, but when there's any difference with other groups, we use our own rules above others' variations. WHO'S WHO IN THE SQUARE A square consists of four couples , with one couple stationed on each of the four sides of the square. Everyone starts facing the center of the square. Each couple consists of a "boy"/"man" and a "girl"/"lady" , with the boy standing on the left. The actual sex of the dancer is unimportant as long as everyone remembers who is the "boy" and who is the "girl". Each member of a couple is the other member's partner . The lady on a man's left is his corner , and conversely the man on a lady's right is her corner . Couples are numbered 1, 2, 3, and 4 starting with the couple closest to the caller and moving counterclockwise. Couples 1 and 3 are the heads , and 2 and 4 are the sides When drawing square dance figures, it is traditional to specify men as squares and women as circles, with small protuberances denoting the front of the body. When the Unnamed Facility club draws square dancing figures, couple 1 is blue, couple 2 is red, couple 3 is green and couple 4 is yellow.
