The Internship Program at the Gandhi Center offers unique and diverse opportunities for undergraduate students who are interested in the center's work. The program has special appeal for those who wish to combine academic study with practical application and experience. The program began in 2006. Interns are required to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week for at least 12 weeks. Preference is given to applicants who can intern for at least two consecutive semesters. This provides a richer experience for both the intern and the program. Supervisors work with interns to establish projects and long-term assignments. Interns are typically given a broad range of duties, but may also include office administration. No more than 10 percent of time will include clerical work. The Gandhi Center does not provide stipends. Application Procedures
Many students receive academic credit for their internships through their major. Those who wish to receive academic credit should indicate so on the application and provide the internship supervisor's name and email address within their major. The necessary forms from the major must be submitted upon acceptance to the program. Applicants are expected to assume responsibility for assuring that their application materials are submitted by the deadline. The deadlines are: for fall (September - December): April 9; spring (January - May): October 30. Incomplete or late applications may not be considered.

    Internships Create Career Opportunities
It may seem like everyone, from parents to neighbors to professors, are encouraging you to get an internship while you're in college. Why is it important to get a student internship? In addition to giving you valuable skills and experience, it is important to think about an internship as a vital part of the career process. To put this idea in perspective, it can be helpful to learn more about how the idea of internships has evolved. Internships have become so ingrained in professional culture, that February 2 was even named Job Shadowing Day (mimicking the Groundhog Day shadow tradition). Job shadowing is kind of like a mini-internship, where you spend the day with a professional in the field of your choice. Job shadowing is different from interning because you are there as an observer more than a participant. This means that you will have the opportunity to attend meetings and network with people you wouldn't necessarily have access to during your internship of internship program. While the U.S. Department of Labor and Junior Achievement may have labeled February 2 as Job Shadowing Day, you might want to consider job shadowing at one or more offices before committing yourself to an internship. This will allow you to get a full picture of the types of internships and jobs that are available to you.

Wellness is an active, lifelong process and at Holden we believe, and have research results to back it up, that plants and our beautiful environment can play an integral role in a more balanced and fulfilling life.  Plants and gardens have proven restorative effects on people. Just passively observing gardens or natural surroundings lowers blood pressure, increases concentration, decreases stress levels, diminishes muscle tension and can help alleviate pain. Of course, actively hiking and exploring the gardens and trails have fitness benefits as well. Reconnect with nature and let the beauty of Holden inspire you to more healthy living!

    Student Internships at the FCC
The Federal Communications Commission offers legal and non-legal internship opportunities throughout the year. Internships provide opportunities for interested students to increase their knowledge of the issues and technologies that are shaping the telecommunications market, while at the same time providing invaluable support to the Commission. The FCC is always looking for bright and motivated students who want to participate in one of our many programs and gain valuable experience with a federal agency. Internships at the FCC may qualify for academic credit from a home institution, and are sometimes paid but students will never be permitted to simultaneously receive academic credit and pay. While the positions are typically in the legal, economic or engineering disciplines, the various offices and bureaus may have positions in other disciplines available. Internships are arranged by the individual bureaus and offices of the Commission on a part- or full-time basis. Many of the bureaus and offices offer internship opportunities throughout the school year in addition to the traditional summer program. Each bureau and office independently determines the number of positions, timeframes, and tasks assigned to their respective internship positions.
