As the Housing Authority for the City of Boulder, Boulder Housing Partners has emerged as a national leader in sustainability within affordable housing. BHP is committed to operating a portfolio that is socially, environmentally and fiscally sustainable. In addition, BHP's Board of Commissioners has adopted a Conservation and Sustainability Plan with aggressive goals for reducing energy, water use, and waste throughout our housing, and in 2009 our Board endorsed a goal to become the first net-zero Housing Authority in the nation. Exciting things are happening at BHP in terms of renewable power, energy conservation, and environmental sustainability. Check back often to see where we are, and where we are going in the future!

The site was originally set up as part of the Objective 1 part-funded project continues to inform on all activities geared towards the transition to a hydrogen economy in Wales. Renewable Hydrogen Research and Development Centre. The Centre is located at the Baglan Energy Park, South Wales and is one of the first of its kind. Hydrogen produced from renewable sources and will be used in the building and for refueling vehicles. A photo of the site is shown below and directions to the Centre are given. Hydrogen Economy Hydrogen is seen as a versatile energy carrier of the future, complementary to electricity and with the potential to replace fossil fuels. Sustainably produced hydrogen can be the basis of a low carbon economy, delivering a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide and other atmospheric pollutants, with the associated benefit of security of supply and the possibility of an infrastructure based on distributed generation. MSc Renewable Energy and Resource Management This MSc course is delivered on a modular basis by members of the Sustainable Environment Research Centre (SERC). It addresses current worldwide concerns about climate change, renewable energy supply, low carbon economy and sustainable management of water and solid resources. The course has now been running for 3 years and has currently 27 students. After studying this course, students have found employment in renewable energy industry and also energy and environmental consultancy companies. For more information please contact Dr. Sandra Esteves (sesteves@glam.ac.uk).

What is Sustainability?
Simply put, Sustainability means that a resource can be maintained indefinitely. It is naturally replenished as fast, or faster, than it is used. The Earth provides valuable natural resources (like oil, water, forestry) that humanity uses for its fuel, food, shelter - all aspects of its existence. For a resource to be sustainable, it cannot be used a rate that exceeds the Earth's natural ability to replenish it. If a resource is used more rapidly than it can be replaced, it is not sustainable, and will, at some point in the future, be gone.
The Circle of Sustainability
Sustainability both affects and is affected by many facets of human existence: political, economical, societal, moral. The most effective means to control the impact of sustainability issues on an organization is for the organization to control its impact on sustainability.
Sustainable Development
"Sustainable Development" is meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." - U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Non-partisan, non-profit corporation formed to promote energy independence for the United States through sustainable energy sources, efficiency and conservation.

Center for Energy Independence United States energy independence Some think it is an impossible goal. We have the energy and fuel sources. We have the technology and capability. Do we have the willpower?
Right now, we are energy dependent on other countries. We lack resolve. We clamor for cheaper, more reliable energy when gasoline prices soar, or when heating shortages strike in winter. But as soon as prices retreat, most of us retreat from what we demanded - less polluting, less expensive, and more reliable energy.
Our national security and economy depend on secure, reliable sources. Where would the U.S. be without fuel for transportation and heating, or electricity for homes and businesses? Our economy would be in shambles, and our national security would be in danger.
The Center for Energy Independence is a dedicated to the concept of energy independence for the United States through sustainable energy sources, energy efficiency, and energy conservation. We believe in the development of renewable and sustainable energy sources such as solar, geothermal, wind, and tidal.
