Sweden History and Agriculture
Influences from foreign countries have always made a country what it is, like the Indian influences brought into the United Kingdom over the centuries. Sweden history is packed full of prominent influences beginning a long time back in the days of the glacial period when, from the South and East of the country, Northern Sweden was introduced to processes of hunting and gathering fishing and killing meat to survive was a part of life. Later on in the 18th Century, as people married off and families grew, families would live in barns around tiny villages which would often be centred around a church. Any land nearby to the villages would be sectioned off and farmed by the different groups that would be allocated those specific portions of land, each group having plenty of land to work. Although the amount of land was plenty, the production of that land was quite low (around 2% of the land was cultivated and farmed) which would soon increase as groups of people from other countries moved in. As the population grew, Sweden history tells use that land would continuously be sectioned off and split so that different families had their own plot so, as the population grew the production of food from farming increased substantially over the next few centuries. In addition to the food consumables that come from the farming and agriculture in Sweden history, the country is also responsible for a large amount of forestry exports. The Scandinavian soft and hard wood is exported into countries like the UK and as far as America in the form of timber, paper and wood pulp a massively important factor in the countries status in the world. Other countries continue to show huge interest in the ability of Sweden to produce high quality exports in the form of both forest products and food products, demand is always high and despite the increasing volume of harvesting that has been conducted in the country they continue to gain wood resources as well as caring for the environmental impact of the forestry industry and the agricultural industry.

Amusing facts about Sweden, Swedish Culture, and Swedish Governance, compiled by an American.
  • As of 2004 you can pay your Swedish taxes by sending an SMS message from your cell phone. The government sends you a completely filled out tax form and if it looks good you just go online and click okay to pay your taxes. Taxes are generally between 50 and 70% of your income. (Of course your employer already pays the full amount of your salary to the government in taxes before you even get anything.) Companies must lay off employees in first-in-last-out order when they are downsizing. You can take sick leave during your vacation if you are ill. Parents get a total of 13 months of paid maternity leave and the father is required to take at least 1 month of it. (There has been a discussion about changing this to 15 months and requiring the father and mother to each take 5 and then split the last 5 as they feel appropriate.) Parental leave can be used to take off time for parenting classes before your child is born. Parents can save up their maternity leave for more than 5 years (i.e., use it for doctor's appointments, school visit days, etc.).

Food and Drink
Traditional Swedish cooking cannnot be compared with the sophistication of, say, French or Italian cuisine. Swedish food is usually simple and satisfying, and nowadays also healthy. In the last few decades immigrants from all over the world have enriched our food culture with a host of exciting dishes. Foreign fast food, for example, has become an inseparable part of Swedish youth culture.

Special Dishes
If you want to try some typical Swedish fast-food, you can go to a hot-dog stand (korvkiosk). There you can choose between fried and boiled hot dogs, served with French fries or mashed potatoes together with mustard and/or ketchup (Senap eller ketchup? you will be asked). Lately, som new dishes have turned up in the stands, like baked potatoes.
If you want to taste some Swedish homely fare you can try pea soup with pork and pancakes for dessert. This dish is usally served on Thursdays and if you want to go the whole hog you should order some Swedish punch for the pancakes, a yellow and very sweet alcoholic beverage, usually served ice-cold.
Pytt i panna, a hash of fried diced meat with onions and potatoes is another specialty. It is served with fried eggs and slices of pickled red beets. You can also try
