The Beauty of Taiwan Culture
Chinese Culture
The island of Taiwan boasts flora from the tropical, subtropical, temperate and frigid zones, and has a climate that ranges from equatorial to polar. Taiwan's topography and diverse range of fauna and flora are unmatched elsewhere. From a cultural anthropology perspective, Taiwan's aboriginal peoples share a common heritage with those of the South Pacific islands. They flourished in the mountains and along the plains bordering the ocean, developing a mountain/oceanic culture. Over the past several hundred years, Han Chinese culture was added to the mix, as Chinese immigrated to Taiwan from the Chinese mainland. And at various intervals, the Dutch, Spanish, and Japanese colonized Taiwan, bringing with them their own cultural influences. These two kinds of diversity attest to Taiwan's inherently pluralistic and inclusive nature. With so many different kinds of flora and fauna, and the stimulus of various ethnic traits, Taiwan's cultural landscape is unparalleled.

Culture of Taiwan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search The Culture of Taiwan is a hybrid blend of Confucianist Han Chinese Japanese European ... global , local and Taiwanese aborigines cultures, which are often perceived in both traditional and modern understandings. The common socio-political experience in Taiwan gradually developed into a sense of Taiwanese cultural identity and a feeling of Taiwanese cultural awareness, which has been widely debated domestically. Reflecting the continuing controversy surrounding the political status of Taiwan , politics continues to play a role in the conception and development of a Taiwanese cultural identity, especially in the prior dominant frame of a Taiwanese and Chinese dualism. In recent years, the concept of Taiwanese multiculturalism has been proposed as a relatively apolitical alternative view, which has allowed for the inclusion of mainlanders and other minority groups into the continuing re-definition of Taiwanese culture as collectively held systems of meaning and customary patterns of thought and behavior shared by the people of Taiwan.

Taiwan Culture Shock: The definition of dangerous
The people who have kids will understand this one better. I have an ongoing dispute with the mother-in-law about the definition of dangerous. Her take appears to be straightforward: the bodies of young children have an inability to regulate temperature, but are resistant to drinking bleach. When she is in my house, or looking after the children, she runs two paces behind them continually ready to take the place of their natural temperature gauge. In the summer, she is blasting aircon at them and nagging me every two minutes to take them back from the park because it is too hot. In the winter she has them wearing enough clothes for the arctic. The autumn and spring are the worse times of the year because the weather is changeable and the disputes increase. You arrange to meet the wife and mother-in-law in the park and, when you get there, of course, to combat the mild breeze they are wearing 3 layers of clothing. I will of course then try and remove two layers and i will get terrible stares from the wife and mother-in-law.

People from many different places and backgrounds, such as Taiwan's indigenous people, the southern Fujianese from early China, Hakka immigrants, the Dutch, Spanish, and Japanese, and the recent immigrants from mainland China. have all played a role in Taiwan's development.
While gradually developing a new culture indigenous to Taiwan, they also held on to their respective customs and traditions; as a result, you will be able to sample indigenous, Taiwanese, and Chinese cultures and even find traces left by the Dutch and the Japanese when traveling in Taiwan.
CHINESE CULTURE
Taiwan forms the center of Chinese art and culture, which is not only obvious from the exhaustive collection of cultural relics from past dynasties exhibited in the famous National Palace Museum, but can also be perfectly illustrated by the traditional architecture and folk art found in Taiwan.

Wine was produced through the fermenting of grain during the reign of Yu the Great in 2200BC. Chinese ancestors used wine as a celebration drink, offerings to their forefathers, and to toast with family and friends at a feast. Wine is an important feature in Chinese culture. In ancient times, Chinese people and their wines were inseparable. The banquets of emperors and nobles always served wine. Nevertheless, drinking too much wine could lead to excessive revelry, loss of serenity, and is harmful to oneself and others. Therefore, those with a conscientious frame of mind spoke on the virtues of wine drinking and came up with teachings on self-restraint to help keep people sober most of the time. There are many interesting anecdotes from Chinese wine-drinking culture. A Chinese person is very particular about craving for wine first while drinking before drinking to the fullest. Besides that, drinkers must have the stamina to be able to drink to the fullest yet retain the liquor. To liven the event, drinking is usually complimented with finger-games, or other games such as thinking up new songs, spontaneously composing poems, singing in unison, dancing, and so on.

Taiwan Culture reflects the customs and traditions of Taiwanese people. It is in fact a perfect combination of Confucianist Han Chinese cultures and European, Japanese, American, global, and local traditions. There is no doubt in the fact that the culture of Taiwan merges and blends modernity with traditionalism. The economic, social, political and other important aspects affecting the people of Taiwan get reflected through the Taiwan Culture Taiwan's culture has been largely formed by the processes of imperialism and colonization. In 1895, before the Qing Empire ceded Taiwan to Japan, Taiwan Culture was shaped by Qing frontier societies of Han farmers and highland Aborigines. With the course of time as political scenario of the country changed, the culture of Taiwan also keeps on changing. Since the last few decades the Taiwanese culture underwent a thorough alteration. It always keeps on symbolizing the present condition of the nation. During KMT era (between 1960s and 1980s) the culture of Taiwan represented the contrasts between Taiwan and communist China. At that time the main focus was given to the official view of traditional culture of China and involvement in social and community events and the Confucian ideology twisted with the thought of Sun Yat-sen.
