Lieh Tzu
Doctrines The Chinese title of the book attributed to Lieh Tzu is Ch'ung-hsu Chih-te Chen-Ching or The Pure Classic of the Perfect Virtue of Simplicity and Vacuity. This collection of stories, sayings and short essays is considered to be the most easily accessible of the Taoist classics. Although obscure in parts it does not contain the infinite possibilities of misunderstanding common to the Lao Tzu itself. The stories of the Lieh Tzu often seem to contradict its philosophy, but the notion that there are wondrous things which are beyond our ordinary knowledge is an important aspect of Taoist philosophy. By 300 C.E. there were cults which emphasised physical immortality, mainly through physical techniques and the elixir of immortality. The relationship between these cults and philosophic Taoism remains obscure.
The eight chapters deal with different themes
  • Reconciliation with death.
  • Principles of action.
  • Sense perception as illusion (a non-Taoist theme that would suggest the influence of Buddhism).
  • Critique of the Confucian belief in 'knowledge'.

    Taoism
Taoism has been described by Benjamin Hoff [1] as the story of Winnie the Pooh: Its about this dumpy little bear that wanders around asking silly questions, making up songs, and going through all kinds of adventures, without ever accumulating any amount of intellectual knowledge or losing his simpleminded sort of happiness. Thats about it, folks. Winnie the Pooh, Forest Gump , a wandering minstrel, whatever. Its about the Kiss Principle: Keep It Simple, Stupid. Its Taoism. Its the wisdom of childlike innocence, the faith in a universe with an outrageous sense of humor. But if you need more, Hoff [1] does write that When you discard arrogance, complexity, and a few other things that get in the way, sooner or later you will discover that simple, childlike, and mysterious secret known to those of the Uncarved Block: Life is Fun. In Buddhism, there is the concept of the Bodhisattva, those who take a vow to forego nirvana in order to assist others to get there. In Taoism, while fully respecting the goals of the Bodhisattva, one might instead take Bozo-Sattva http://www.schoolofalchemy.com

Image:DaoTao.png Taoism (sometimes written as Daoism ) is the English name for
    (a) the Chinese folk religion (b) a family of organized Chinese religious movements such as the Zhengyi ("Orthodox One") or Quanzhen ("Complete Reality") sects, which collectively trace back to Zhang Daoling in the late Han dynasty ; and/or (c) academic philosophies or belles lettres based on the texts Daodejing (ascribed to Laozi ) and Zhuangzi
The English word "Taoism" translates the Chinese terms Daojiao (道教) and Daojia (道家). The character Dao 道 (or Tao , depending on the transcription scheme one prefers) literally means "path" or "way", but in Chinese religion or philosophy has taken on more abstract meanings. The compound Daojiao refers to "Daoism" as a "religion" (i.e., people worshipping at altars); Daojia refers to the activity of scholars in their studies. (It must be noted that this distinction is itself controversial and fraught with hermeneutic difficulty.) Much uncertainty exists over the meaning of "Taoism." In some countries and contexts (for example, the national "Taoism" organizations of China and Taiwan), the label has come to be applied to the Chinese folk religion, which would otherwise not have a readily-recognizable English name. However many, if not most, of its practitioners would not recognize "Taoism" (in any language) as the name of their religion. Moreover, the several forms of what we might call "elite" or "organized" Taoism often distinguish their ritual activities from those of the folk religion, which professional "Taoists" (

The Tao - What Christians Should Learn of True Intimacy
    By Dave
    Introduction
As I reflect on our Lifestyles convention experience and reactions from many others who have written us, I have a desire to explore more deeply and suggest more ideas on intimacy and long-term caring loving polyfidelity relationships over the typical "Swinging" mentality. We have extensive research supporting biblical responsible non-monogamy. But we want to share more ideas on intimacy. Our report "Christian Tantra" showed wonderful Eastern ways of Tantra which integrates spirit and sexuality. In this paper, I will expand these ideas and discuss the Tao. Further motivating me in this direction was an experience shared with a couple where the wife tried my Sybian. Afterwards, with her husband's encouragement, I shared sexually with his wife. The three of us had a very good discussion at the same time. The husband indicated his interest in learning to be a more sensitive, soft lover. His wife replied "His idea of foreplay is - ready -brace yourself!", and he agreed. So my idea is for men - brace yourselves - and perhaps together we can learn more about loving intimacy that makes sex that much more emotionally fulfilling, not just a physical thrusting act.
The Tao is Not A Religion
The symbol of Tao is water - indicating its benevolence, flexibility and its lack of formality. It flows as opposed to most religions full of ritual and dogma. Tao refers to the Chinese

    Zhuangzi
First published Sat Nov 10, 2001 Zhuangzi has been the subject of more than sixty major East Asian commentaries since the third century C.E., some of which contain philosophically significant interpretations of the text. The most important of these are the commentary by Guo Xiang, which focuses on his understanding of Zhuangzi's philosophy of spontaneity, the commentary by Cheng Xuanying (ca. 620-670), a religious Daoist master with strong interests in emptiness theory, and commentaries by the following Sung and Ming dynasty literati scholars: Wang Pang (1042-76), Lin Xiyi (ca. 1200-73), Lo Miandao (ca. 1240-1300), and Jiao Hong (1541-1620). None of these has been fully translated into English and modern studies of them in any language are few, thus yielding a fertile field for future research. The existence of these commentaries demonstrates the great popularity of the Zhuangzi among Chinese literati who saw within it support for a withdrawal from a life of social and political service into a private life of reclusion and self-cultivation. If Confucianism came to stand for the foundational philosophy of this ethos of self-sacrifice, the Daoism of the

Professor of Chinese at the University of Cambridge, Author of "Historic China," "A History of Chinese Literature," "China and the Chinese," etc., etc. First Published 1906 by Constable and Company Ltd., London. Chapter III Taoism In one of the few genuine utterances of Lao Tzu which have survived the wreck of time, we find an allusion to a spiritual world. Unfortunately, it is impossible to say exactly what the passage means. According to Han Fei (died B.C. 233), who wrote several chapters to elucidate the sayings of Lao Tzu, the following is the correct interpretation: "Govern a great nation as you would cook a small fish (i.e. do not overdo it).
