Vending Machine Memory In another sign that you can get about anything you want in an airport, Kingston and N.J.-based MyMemory are offering USB flash drives and CompactFlash and SD cards via what’s believed to be the world’s first flash memory vending machine. The first MyMemory Digital Memory vending machine set up shop in London’s Gatwick Airport’s North Terminal, and additional machines are already planned for Heathrow Airport and London train stations. MyMemory is reportedly also developing relationships with SanDisk and Olympus, as well as Sennheiser and Uniross, to join the vending machine movement. According to Anne Keefe, Kingston’s sales director, buyers “want instant access to SD cards and USB drives as they need them 24/7, so vending machines in public spaces was the most obvious solution.” Comment Read More Aug

Tarantula is the common name for a group of hairy and often very large spider s belonging to the family Theraphosidae, of which approximately 900 species have been identified. Tarantulas hunt prey in both trees and on the ground. All tarantulas can emit silk, whether they be arboreal or terrestrial species. Arboreal species will typically reside in a silken "tube web", and terrestrial species will line their burrows or lairs with web to catch wandering prey. They mainly eat insects and other arthropods, using ambush as their primary method. The biggest tarantulas can kill animals as large as lizards, mice, or birds. Most tarantulas are harmless to humans, and some species are popular in the exotic pet trade while others are eaten as food. These spiders are found in tropical and desert regions around the world. The name tarantula comes from the town of Taranto in Southern Italy and was originally used for an unrelated species of either European wolf spider (See Lycosa tarantula for more information about this spider the appearance of which resembles that of that tarantula family) or the Mediterranean black widow (the effects of whose bite more closely resemble that described in Taranto). In Africa, Theraphosids are frequently referred to as "baboon spiders". Asian forms are known as "earth tigers" or "bird spiders". Australians refer to their species as "barking spiders", "whistling spiders," or "bird spiders". People in other parts of the world also apply the general name "mygales" to Theraphosid spiders.

Tarantula THERAPHOSIDAE Description Tarantulas are large, hairy spiders, with a leg span that may be as wide as 5 or 6 inches. Despite Hollywood's deadly and aggressive image of the tarantula, the truth is that San Diego County's three resident species of the genus Aphonopelma are actually quite docile. Both males and females are capable of inflicting a bite when threatened, but they rarely do so and their venom is considered non-toxic to humans. A conspicuous bald spot may be seen on the abdomen of many tarantulas. This results from the spider's defensive behavior against its vertebrate enemies. When confronted, the spider will rub its hind legs over its body, brushing off irritating hairs into an enemy's eyes. These hairs are replaced during each successive moult. Range and Habitat Common to the local desert and low-elevation chaparral habitats , tarantulas can also be found in many of the city's undeveloped canyons. They are not normally encountered during the day and generally remain hidden in abandoned rodent burrows or other suitable tunnels that they line with silk. Tarantulas become active in the late afternoon from spring through fall. Natural History Like most other spiders, tarantulas are considered beneficial predators who feed on many invertebrates including sowbugs, pillbugs, insects, and even other spiders. Their prey is grabbed and crushed in the tarantula's powerful fangs. Owing to the tarantula's reduced oral opening, or 'mouth,' it secretes digestive enzymes through its fangs to dissolve the prey externally. The spider then sucks the liquefied meal back up through its small mouth and into its digestive system.

Insects as pets, like any other living thing, deserve the same level of commitment as any other pet. They are not a throw-a-way pet. You cant decide you dont want them and just release them outside. Every insect belongs within its own ecosystem; not all praying mantis or mantids are the same. There are over 2200 different species of mantises; mostly native to Asia, introducing just one into the wrong ecosystem could have devastating effects on the local ecology. There are approximately 20 native species of praying mantis native to the United States.
Praying mantis eats prey but theyre still a praying mantis, not a preying mantis. The name is derived from their prayer like posture. Except for a rare exception mantises must be housed seperately.
The praying mantis comes from the sub tropics and tropics from around the world. The praying mantis has an incredible means to be able to hide amongst the vegetation in their ecosystem. One praying mantis looks like an orchid; the orchid praying mantis camouflaging itself within flowers of the rainforest. The orchid praying mantis is a beautiful organism that can easily capture its prey when it lands on the nearby flowers.

LINKS SPIDER PICTURES CONTACT ... TEXT ONLY PAGE The aim of this BLOG is to give an insight into how I decided to set up and look after a Spiderling. The species I went for was the Mexican
Red Knee (also know as Brachypelma Smithi). The reason I chose this type of spider was the fact that it is easy to care for and fairly
cheap. I had always wanted a Mexican Red Knee, but was unable to afford one when I was little as the adults are quite expensive. This
is another reason why I went for a baby spider instead of a mature adult. These can be bought from many distributors in the UK. I got
mine from: The Spider Shop.co.uk : Tarantula Suppliers var addthis_pub="benmaffin"; Feel free to contact me on Facebook if you've got any questions about the Blog. It's always good to hear from people who have a genuine interest in spiders, especially the Mexican Red Knee. I've not updated the blog for a while, but the info still stands and I'm using the principles which I developed here to keep other spiders. A quick note when you contact me on facebook now , let me know you found me here as I've got a couple of different blogs! Looking forward to hearing from you!!

    ...
    MY PET'S PICTURES

S I N G A P O R E T A R A N T U L A P A G E Welcome to the Singapore Tarantula Page where I will introduce you to my pet tarantulas!! Well, I live in Singapore have two Asian Forest Scorpions and recently I bought a Hondoras Curly Hair. This interest has been in me since 8,but then I didn't know how to keep and get'em. My Curly was bought at 1". I put in in a 'Pet Pals' tank with some peatmoss as substrate, at a corner I included a small water dish to keep the humidity in. In the centre a rock was used, and there you are...a snug and cosy home for my Curly! Curly molted in a weeks time and is now 1 1/2". Ever since he molted, his appetite was great!! He eats 3 adult crickets a day!. Currently I am looking for the Antilles Pinktoe. I hope in the near future I can get to keep more and more tarantulas. BASIC CARE: Care for tarantulas are actually relatively simple and cheap too. Basically for groung dwellers, you need a tank or even a box big enough to let the tarantula move about. As for substrate, you can use potting soil, but over several watering, the soil may sink and cake. So I used peat. Peat can retain moisture very well, though too much promotes fungi. If you want to decorate the tank, try not to overdo it.( you won't see your spider often!) I used a big rock instead of driftwood as the latter may grow moulds. offer a small water dish some where to keep to humidity in.
