Teacher Advisory Committee The Teacher Advisory Committee is an exciting opportunity that is open to 15 educators yearly in CESAs 6, 7 and 8. The committee helps choose the new ITV programming that will be broadcast on Wisconsin Public Television during the following school year for use in Wisconsin classrooms. The Teacher Advisory Committee meets once every year, usually in February. Members of the Committee take part in a statewide ITV selection process and have the opportunity to interact with state and local educators. The committee is divided into three, five-member subcommitteesone each for grade level: K-4, 5-8 and 9-12. During the one-day meeting, committee members share feedback they received from teachers in their schools; review data gathered from the ITV Preview ballots; and recommend which series to add and which ones to drop from the following year's ITV broadcast schedule on Wisconsin Public TV. Morning refreshments and lunch are provided and participants are reimbursed for their mileage to and from the meeting site.

Teachers are an invaluable resource for us in ensuring that the Museum of Arts and Design serves our city’s school children and educators in the most optimum ways possible. We count on our Teacher Advisory Committee to be our link to NYC’s schools and classrooms, giving us guidance as to the most effective programming and ask that our TAC members serve as liaisons and advocates for the innovative arts education opportunities MAD provides.
    TAC members:
    • Participate in informal roundtable discussions with a select group of our staff and your fellow colleagues. Develop a forum to share best practices, discuss challenges, problem-solve, and give feedback on a variety of topics including exhibition, curriculum and program development and promotional materials. Help MAD’s school-based education programs best complement the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, meet benchmark requirements in the arts for grades K-12 and maintain open and regular communication between the Museum and New York City area schools. Receive compensation for your contribution through membership benefits, invitations to openings and special events, free passes to area museums and other cultural institutions as well as a stipend for the year.

Teacher Advisory-TA
Each middle school student is member of a TA (Teacher Advisory). TAs meet every morning at the beginning of the school day. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays TA time is 10 minutes in length. On Tuesdays and Fridays we have extended TA, which is 20 minutes in length. TA is meant to be quite different from what was traditionally called "homeroom."
The philosophy behind TA is that a teacher advisor will get to know the members of his/her TA very well and can act as a support and advisor for each of those students. Research shows that if a student has a positive relationship with at least one adult in a school that student will feel more connected to the school and experience more school success. While many of these positive relationships occur outside of the TA structure having a TA provides one more opportunity for these positive connections to develop.

    • Arizona has a “cohort of some 120 area science teachers who serve as mentors to [its] prospective science teachers and host them for field experiences in our courses. These teachers helped develop the program curriculum and continue to advise [the faculty].” The Cal Poly TAG worked with faculty and Teachers-in-Residence to develop an instrument for the classroom observation component of the school’s “Introduction to Teaching” course. Cal Poly faculty report: “We were able to get a very representative group of middle and high school teachers to participate. The diversity of the group paid dividends immediately as they brainstormed ways to improve our observations class.” For example, the teachers recommended requiring observations of classes at different grade levels in a variety of alternative and traditional schools that represent the full spectrum of student socioeconomic levels. The UTeach Program’s curriculum was designed at the request of the Dean of the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Natural Sciences by a group of master teachers, many of whom are still involved in the program as student teacher mentors.

    Boston Teacher Advisory Network
The Boston Teacher Action Network brings together a diverse group of Boston teachers to explore and discuss issues in school reform. Through presentations, conversations, and collaborative projects members look beyond their day-to-day work in classrooms and the immediate challenges of their schools to reflect on the broader context of change in the Boston Public Schools and field of urban education.

    How it works
In a series of structured meetings, three to four per semester, Boston teachers representing all grade levels meet to learn about new initiatives, share information with each other, and generate ideas that can influence policies and systems within the Boston Public Schools. Meeting topics and guest speakers are chosen by a steering committee of teachers working with staff from the Boston Plan for Excellence. To learn more or get involved, contact
