Where is the intelligent life?
July 18, 2010 We have been scanning the heavens for a few decades now without a hint of a more advanced civilization in the Universe.  There are of course could be many good reasons why we may not have stumbled upon anything yet… the vast distances of space are over-whelming, other civilizations preferred to remain hidden or… there is nobody out there! Are we the first?  Or maybe civilizations have a tendency to destroy themselves in their rush to advancement.  It seems mightily unlikely that we would be the first civilization to pop out of its shell in our Galaxy, much less the Universe.  So lets just toy around with the theory of self inflicted destruction as a common occurrence with advanced civilizations. That would be a rather simple answer as to why we find nobody out there.  In our own little microcosm of human civilization, we can easily see many flaws that cause us to over estimate out ability to control events.  Financial bubbles, world wars are just some of the more obvious examples.  But back to idea of how a civilization could self-destruct before its advancement was scattered across the stars… begins with technology. Don’t get me wrong… I love technology!  It amazes me, enlightens my thoughts and has made the world a more comfortable place.  That is why the advancement of technology succeeds… it provides direct value in our everyday lives.  But while there is mostly a lot of good from the advancement of technology, there is also a flip side to technology.

Television Broadcasting
Is television broadcasting for you?
Television broadcasting is a fun and fast-paced career for those who enjoy the journalistic process and writing their own dialogue. Broadcasters must also be able to improvise on their own in the case of late-breaking news, technical difficulties or script changes. Television broadcasting schools can be a good way to get started on a rewarding career of your own, whether in front of the camera or as a part of the production and technical crew behind the scenes. You can also get experience with the latest studio equipment that you may not have access to on your own.
Broadcasting Academic Program
Most colleges and universities that offer a journalism degree will have a television broadcasting academic program. Many of the required classes are the same as those taken by print journalism students. The basic principles of journalism must be covered, along with public relations, communications law, marketing, writing, mass communication, communications theory, history of television broadcasting and audio / video production. On top of the specialized journalism classes, students at television broadcasting schools must also take the basic requirements of English, math, sciences, etc. There are bachelor's degree programs and master's degree programs available to choose from, depending on the type of television broadcasting career you are interested in pursuing. A bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism is enough to prepare you to write better, collect information and report the news on television. Most recent graduates of television broadcasting school go right into a career as a news reporter or a behind-the-scenes technician.

    • Previous release Operating revenues for the television broadcasting industry totalled $6.5 billion (current dollars) in 2008, up 5.4% from 2007. The overall results for the industry, however, do not describe the very different situations in its various segments, particularly the difficult year for private conventional television. The operating revenues for private conventional television fell 1.8% to $2.1 billion in 2008. This was the second annual decline in revenues in three years for this segment. The more difficult period faced by private conventional television in recent years is mainly due to the loss of television advertising market shares to the specialty television segment. Private conventional television captured 58.8% of the $3.4 billion advertising market in 2008, compared with 68.1% five years earlier. This market is particularly important to private conventional television since it is the source of virtually all of its operating revenues.
