Thailand - History
The most well known pre-historic settlement in Thailand is often associated to the major archaeological site at Ban Chiang. Dating of artifacts from this site is a consensus that at least by 1500 BC, the inhabitants had developed bronze tools and also grew rice. According to Funan epigraphy and the records of Chinese historians(Coedes), a number of trading settlements of the South appear to have been organized into several Indianised states, among the earliest of which are believed to be Langkasuka and Tambralinga. Thai chieftains gained independence from the Khmer Empire at Sukhothai, which was established as a sovereign Kingdom by Pho Khun Si Indrathit in 1238. King Ramkhamhaeng, who established the Thai alphabet, but after his death in 1365 it fell into decline.
Another Thai state that coexisted with Sukhothai was the northern state of Lanna. This state emerged in the same period as Sukhothai,. Its independent history ended in 1558, when it fell to the Burmese The first ruler of the Kingdom of Ayutthaya, King Ramathibodi I, established and promoted Buddhism as the official religion – to differentiate his kingdom from the neighbouring Hindu kingdom of Angkor. In 1767, the Burmese attacked the capital city and conquered it. The royal family fled the city where the king died of starvation ten days later. The Ayutthaya royal line had been extinguished. Overall there are 33 kings in this period, including an unofficial king.

Thailand History
According to the brief history of thailand saw settlers migrating from southern china during the Christian era and formed numerous city like states which is Thailand today. Slowly the Thais migrated further south to the broad and fertile central plains, and extended their dominance over the entire Indochina Peninsula. Recent archaeological discoveries around the northeast hamlet of Ban Chiang point that the world's oldest Bronze Age civilization was prospering in Thailand some 5,000 years ago.
History of Thailand during the Sukhothai Period (1238-1438)
Sukhothai period is seen as the golden age of Thai culture as it was the first Thai kingdom founded in 1238 by two Thai governors, Khun Bang Klang Thao (Sri Inthrathit) and Khun Pha Muang. These two were who rebelled against the Khmers; and gave independence to the region. Thailand saw a flourishing time during the Sukhothai period; it gained independence in 1238 and quickly expanded its boundary of influence.
Ayutthaya Period (1351-1767)
U-Thong King in 1350 founded the Ayutthaya, the capital of the Thai Kingdom. Ayutthaya as an island is formed by the gathering of three rivers, and surrounded by rice terraces. The area was settled prior to this date as the region offered a variety of geographical and economic advantages. The Thai kings of Ayutthaya became powerful in the 14th and 15th centuries, taking over U-Thong, Lopburi, and Ayutthaya.

Thailand : History
Southeast Asia has been inhabited for more than half a million years. Archaeological studies suggest that by 4000 BC, communities in what is now Thailand had emerged as centers of early bronze metallurgy. This development, along with the cultivation of wet rice, provided the impetus for social and political organization. Research suggests that these innovations may actually have been transmitted from there to the rest of Asia, including to China. The Thai are related linguistically to Tai groups originating in southern China. Migrations from southern China to Southeast Asia may have occurred in the 6th and 7th centuries. Malay, Mon, and Khmer civilizations flourished in the region prior to the arrival of the ethnic Tai. The Thai date the founding of their nation to the 13th century. According to tradition, in 1238, Thai chieftains overthrew their Khmer overlords at Sukhothai and established a Thai kingdom. After its decline, a new Thai kingdom emerged in 1350 on the Chao Praya River at Ayutthaya. At the same time, there was the equally important Tai kingdom of Lanna, centered in Chiang Mai, which for centuries rivaled Sukhothai and Ayutthaya, and still defines northern Thai identity.

Thailand History
Migration of the people of Thailand from Southern China to the mainland Southeast Asia around 10th century AD actually led to the beginning of the history of Thailand or Thailand history . The region was ruled by few kingdoms like Mon, Khmer and Malay before 10th century AD. The Thailand people created their own states of Sukhothai and Ayutthaya kingdom. These states were frequently engaged in fighting and received threats from Burma, Vietnam and the Khmers. Thailand was in fact the only southeastern country to have survived the threats of the European colonial aggression. In 1932 the monarchist rule ended and after that there was 60 years of acute military control. Finally Thailand is now enjoying the atmosphere of democracy.
Military dictatorship covered most of the Thailand history from 1932 to 1973. Due to some critical changes and incidents the government of Thailand was changed from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy. The contemporary king initially accepted the change but later on deviated citing that the common people living there would be deprived if left to any unknown individual or group.

The middle of 16th century saw, Ayutthaya and the independent kingdom in Chiang Mai being put under the control of the Burmese, but Thais could regain it by end of the century.
