Thanksgiving Poems For Kids
Thanksgiving poems for children are a great way to express what the holiday is all about. Writing, studying and reading poetry can open the opportunity to learn about the original celebration in the Bible and this nation's Thanksgiving traditions. Children are especially interested in holidays, and tapping into this interest can be a great way to spark a child's interest into poetry and different forms of writing. Teachers, parents, and anyone working with children will find appropriate poetry and ideas for using it at bookstores, libraries, or online throughout the Internet where innovative authors have posted warm thoughtful Thanksgiving poems for children and adults to enjoy.
Having children write original poetry can be an exercise in reflecting on thankfulness. Being thankful can turn a heart of stone into a heart of gratitude when taking the time to specifically sit and write out precious memories or praises to God. Teaching children to write poetry will also teach children the discipline of spending time in thanks to the Lord for his provisions, love, and sovereignty. Perhaps the best way to teach a child to write a holiday poem is by sharing examples of other Thanksgiving poems for kids which model what the end result may look like.

Say Thanks: A Great Way to End the Year
The economy's tough. The year may have been rough. But you can show a lot of appreciation in a way that means more than expensive gifts ever can.
Take a few tips from IndustryWeek which, although targeted to professionals in this case, apply to every age and interest:
  • Write thank you letters (sound familiar?). A little attention goes a long way. Say thanks personally. Make a phone call or a visit, just to say thanks. Give the gift of time. Schedule an hour, or even just 10 minutes, to spend with that person, and that person alone. Spread the love. Tell other people how much you appreciate someone or what they've done. Do it in person, in a tweet, on your blog... make others appreciate your source of gratitude, too. Be happy. Say thanks, be helpful, be mindful of everyone around you. After all, that's what the spirit of the holidays is all about.

I've decided to stop calling her a brat. Instead I'll call her a turkey. She knows how to say Turkey.

The Pilgrims who landed on Plymouth Rock in December of 1620 found the New World much different than they had expected. Amid the hard New England winter, 46 of the 121 persons who made the voyage perished. But the fall of 1621 brought a bountiful harvest, giving those who remained a change to survive the coming winter. The surviving Pilgrims, along with 91 Native American guests, celebrated the first Thanksgiving with wild game and vegetables. Throughout Colonial history, similar Thanksgiving celebrations occurred whenever settlers felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude toward God. In fact, George Washington even declared a national day of Thanksgiving in 1789. Still, Thanksgiving did not become a regular holiday in the United States until 1863 when Abraham Lincoln signed into law a bill proclaiming the last Thursday of each November to be Thanksgiving Day. In 1941, the U.S. Congress amended the law to make the fourth Thursday of each November Thanksgiving.

Experience is what employers want most. It forms moral character and imagination. It develops self-confidence, courage, and leadership. It is what stays in your memory long after theorems, equations, and memorized facts have faded away. Holy Cross College is unique in that, in order to graduate with a four-year degree, every student must complete four special experiential programs:
      The Service Learning Experience:
You might build a home for a family displaced by a storm, distribute food baskets at Thanksgiving, teach literacy on an Indian Reservation in Montana, or teach children at an orphanage how to play basketball. Every Holy Cross graduate has a story to tell about how much they did to improve someone's life in their volunteer work, and how much more they gained from these emotionally moving, remarkable experiences.
      The Global Experience:
Exploring the infamous slave castle on the Ghanaian coast of Africa, hiking for two days high into the Andes Mountains to reach the Inca ruins at Machu Picchu, taking a bicycle taxi to the Taj Mahal in India, riding a burro up a switchback mountain in Monterrey, Mexico ... these are a few of the memories Holy Cross students share with underclassmen who have yet to go on their own Global Experience. Ask anyone who has taken one of these excursions and they'll tell amazing stories of their adventures living and working alongside the Brothers of Holy Cross in remote villages and major urban areas.

Easter is a traditional Christian holiday. It has also become a traditional secular holiday. How much do you know about Easter? Test your knowledge with these six multiple choice questions. This is question 1 of 6
    Why do we celebrate Easter?
To celebrate surviving winter and the arrival of spring.
To commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It is the celebration of spring planting. We may certainly feel like celebrating the arrival of Spring, but that is NOT why we celebrate Easter. Of course this is the correct answer. In His death on the cross, Jesus conquered death and sin and gave us (those who trust in Him ) new life in Christ. Now that is something that is worth celebrating! Sorry, this one is not the correct answer, although some cultures may celebrate it. That was an easy question. Let's move on to question number two. • Music and games make learning about Thanksgiving fun. Incorporating a Thanksgiving theme into music and games is an effective way for preschoolers to learn the history and tradition associated with the holiday. Preschool music games for Thanksgiving teach children about what a turkey looks and sounds like. Children can also learn about the history of the Thanksgiving meal.
  • Turkey Dance
  • Use music to get children moving while they learn about turkeys. Play the song "The Chicken Dance" and teach children how to move like turkeys. Show the children how to flap their hands to represent the turkey talking. Demonstrate how to fold your hands under your armpits and move your elbows to represent a turkey's wings. Children can then shake their hips to resemble a turkey shaking his feathers. Finish by clapping. Repeat each step four times, in time with the music.
  • Turkey Walk
  • Use paper to make turkey prints and tape them over the floor, placing one less print than the number of students. Turn on music and allow the children to walk around the room pretending to be turkeys. Instruct the children to stand on a turkey print when the music is stopped, like musical chairs. The student who does not get to a print is out. Remove a print from the floor. Start the music again and repeat until there is a winner.
