Spreading Out by Roger Hall Written by Administrator Monday, 27 September 2010 20:08 In New Players' next production, Spreading Out , we meet our characters from Middle Age Spread , 27 years later, now in their 60s, with children in their 40s. The action takes place over three days around New Year’s Eve at the home of Colin and Elizabeth, now retired to the Wairarapa on a lifestyle block growing grapes – Pinot Noir of course. Three generations of the family have gathered to celebrate the New Year when they receive some unexpected guests, their old neighbours, Isobel and Reg. They arrive in their campervan from Queensland and invite themselves to stay. What materialises is a flare-up of family differences and peer resentments in another comedy of bad manners from the pen of Roger Hall. New Year's Eve becomes a disastrous but hilarious expose of 21st century New Zealand middle-class life, as Reg gives his views on sex, working women and the pretentiousness associated with wine in general and pinot noir in particular. Spreading Out is funny and revealing as it comments on our lifestyles and we will laugh with self-recognition.

Theatre General Manager Job Description
By BenjaminF eHow Contributor updated: July 4, 2010 I want to do this! What's This? General managers ensure the artists in a theater company perform to their highest potential. For a theater company to be successful, talented and motivated individuals must work behind the scenes in the company's administration to look after the organization's finances, personnel and long-term strategic planning. One of the most important management positions in theater is the general manager, who ranks only below the executive director in day-to-day oversight of the company's administration. An effective general manager is a crucial component of a theater's front office, and a full understanding of the role is vital for theater companies seeking to hire a new general manager.

    Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in theatre is a program for those students whose interest in theatre is wide-ranging and still evolving. The advantage of the Bachelor of Arts is its flexibility of curriculum. Students undertaking the B.A. program may continue to participate in theatre production through classes and practicum’s at the level of intensity that is appropriate. They are able, with the encouragement of the theatre faculty, to take a broader array of courses in the liberal arts and in the theatre discipline itself. Because training in the theatre can be an excellent platform for a career in many professions besides theatre, the B.A. is also excellent preparation for students who may be interested in employment in many careers in which the skills provided by a theatre education are in demand. These careers range from theatre-related (communication, media and entertainment) to those requiring well-developed, interpersonal skills (professional interviewers, social workers and psychologists). Other occupations for which theatre training is helpful are education, advertising, business, law and politics.
