The eagerly awaited trilogy of plays by Tom Stoppard, "The Coast of Utopia". They deal with intellectual ferment and idealised love amongst 19th Century Russians in exile. (Edited highlights of the panel's review) Watch the whole programme - 09 August 2002
KIRSTY WARK:

Tom Stoppard says that you can see each of these plays in isolation, but is the experience of seeing the three together what's important? The idea of event theatre? JOHN GRAY:
It is an event, but it's an event partly because it embodies a very powerful idea. This is a play, not a tract or a treatie, but the idea that it embodies is that Utopia is not just unrealisable but it's unimaginable. There can be no world in which everything we want is all possible and the attempt to realise Utopia just brings about tears and farce. That's the basic idea, which I think he transmits through maybe what could be seen as fairly obvious device, but I think it works tremendously well in this event. The device is by constantly juxtaposing the speeches and the discourse which these romantic Russian revolutionaries engage in with the tangle of their lives and with something even more important, which he shows through his imaginative use of children, which is that each stage of the life of a person is valuable for what it is, not what it later becomes.

Genres Drama Tragedy Comedy Tragicomedy ... edit Theatre (or theater , see spelling differences ) is a branch of the performing arts . While any performance may be considered theatre, as a performing art, it focuses almost exclusively on live performers creating a self-contained drama. A performance qualifies as dramatic by creating a representational illusion. By this broad definition, theatre had existed since the dawn of man, as a result of the human tendency for storytelling . Since its inception, theatre has come to take on many forms, utilizing speech, gesture, music, dance, and spectacle, combining the other performing arts, often as well as the visual arts , into a single artistic form. The word derives from the Ancient Greek theatron ) meaning "the seeing place."

Show Cue System
Welcome to the Show Cue System
The Show Cue System (SCS) , formerly known as Sound Cue System , is the perfect solution for sound effect and music track playback for live theatre, and for backing track playback and automation for live music productions.
Main Window
The upper part of the screen contains a control area and VU meters. Below that is a scrollable list of the cues, and below this cue list is a more detailed look at the cues, starting with cues currently playing. The 'next cue' can be started simply by pressing the space bar or right-clicking the mouse.
Editor Window - Audio File Cues
On the left of this screen is the cue list. The green background area to the right contains general details of the cue, and the blue background area below that contains details of the audio file sub-cue. After browsing for and selecting an audio file, you can set levels, start and stop positions, loop start and end points, fade times, etc.
Editor Window - Playlist Cues
Playlist Cues are ideal for pre-show and intermission music, where you compile a list of tracks to be played either in order or randomly. Cross-fading and other transitions are available between tracks, and the whole playlist may be stopped or faded out when you are ready to start the show or the next Act.
