82. Serge P.
Theoretical and physical chemistry, semiempirical molecular orbital methods.
http://www.cobalt.chem.ucalgary.ca/ps/
Hi. I am Serguei Patchkovskii and this seems to be my home page - or at least nobody else had claimed it to be his, her, or its home page. Probably because its not cute enough for anybody apart from me to want it. Anyways, for as long as this happy state of the affairs is going to continue it is almost certainly my own home page. If you came here because you'd like to offer me a job (fat chance!) here is my resume . Even if you do not have a job to offer, or have moral objections against offering jobs to guys wearing white T-shirts and three-days-old stubble, you are still welcome to read it. By following this link , which leads to the complete text of my Ph.D. thesis, you can learn as much as you'd ever like to know (and probably more) about analytical calculation of the first-order response properties in some semiempirical quantum chemical methods. As far as I can tell, this is the definitive treatise on the subject. Occasionally, I go to chemical conferences and even present posters. Nowadays, in order to drastically reduce the amount of quality family time available to scientists, the posters are customarily prepared in various electronic formats. This makes it very easy to put them on the Web - so that not only the select academics but also Joe Random Public can appreciate what a jerk the poster's author is. Anyhow, enjoy it - if this is the kind of thing you do enjoy Here , you can download a molecular structure editor (including the complete source code in C and x86 assembler language) I wrote a long, long time ago. The binary will only run under MS DOS (or in a DOS box on a Windows or Linux system), and the source code will not compile with anything except for Turbo C, but it is still a very nice program - even if I say so myself. It is certainly the only program I know which can rotate a molecule of 5000 atoms drawn with nice realistically looking balls and sticks on a lowly i386/16MHz computer lacking any hardware acceleration. It also includes a user-extensible interface to other programs, and can be configured to read output files generated by almost any popular quantum-chemical application.

Theoretical Physics
Trinity College Dublin
Introduction
In these few pages we hope to give the prospective student some idea of the ins and outs and ups and downs of studying Mathematics at Trinity College. This can be done as a Moderatorship in Mathematics , a Moderatorship in Theoretical Physics or a Two Subject Moderatorship with mathematics as one subject. The three degrees, all four year honour degrees, are described in full, including required courses and career options. Word of mouth is often said to be the best advertising. Sharing the experiences of those who have gone before you may be the surest way of gaining a realistic picture of what to expect. With that in mind we will quote liberally from both current and former students of Maths at Trinity College. If you're already reading this you must have an interest in mathematics, but be aware that mathematics studied at university level is totally different to maths at school. New students are often shocked at the new breadth and depth of a subject with which they have long been familiar. ``What happened to sums?''

Like all scientific institutions, ICTP runs services providing for the record and dissemination of the knowledge created or updated within its walls or transferred by means of its high-level training programmes. A special and unique feature of the Centre is its belonging to the family of the United Nations, which implies particular attention to the needs of emerging countries. In more than forty years, the publications and printing services have evolved from a nearly craftsmanship set-up to one using up-to-date technology. From their debut, great importance was assigned to these services since their product (preprints, reports, lecture notes and preprint registries) was nearly the only connection of many scientific institutions in the developing countries and in Eastern Europe with the advances of physics and mathematics achieved in the industrialized world.
    Publications
The office handles scientific research results obtained by resident scientific staff and by scientific visitors (associate members, staff associates and others), which are published as preprints or reports. More than 10,600 articles in various fields have been published since 1964. All these preprints are available on-line.

D.Zagier in Math. Intellig. (1977), p.8, left column
I am a theoretical physicist at the Institute of Theoretical Physics . In the late seventies I started working on strings and supersymmetry. This was my major field of interest until 1984, when I bought the famous ZX Spectrum computer (for less than 200$ !!!). Only then did I understand what good physics was. Immediately I turned from quantum field theory to fractals and chaos. Since Summer 1995 I am also interested in prime numbers, but I still believe that: Physics is Fun ! If a desired package isn't available here, you can request one to be supplied. Packages in this directory may be installed by giving the following command at a DOS prompt: where package.ppd is the name of the package listed below (with a .ppd extension added). Alternatively, you can add repositories to the ppm utility (see the help facility within the ppm shell for the syntax of how to do so); doing this allows you to search for and install packages within the ppm shell using the syntax: ppm> search something ppm> install Some-Package A set of repositories, suitable for adding to the ppm utility of ActivePerl 6xx, is given below - make sure to add only those repositories corresponding to your Perl version, as reported by
