Togo Culture Identifiers
Lome, Togo West Africa
Sunday, March 18, 2007
There are identifiers, small things that explain the behind the scene action in cultures. They are there, small, and signs that all is not as simple as we see.
This is the BTCI bank here in Lome, I think the letters are correct, it is probably the best bank to go to for ATM card, as best I can tell, there is one at the - Change Money - area that is more interesting located. I can literally say Change Money, like I was speaking French and for 150 CFA they take me there to the Bank Machine.
This time, I went to the main bank by accident, the man on the moto was smarter. Ok, out in front is this big sign that has a photo of a Sleigh with Snow, a Christmas scene and say have a good year 2007. It now the month of March and the sign is still there.
Why snow? Why still in March up and at em?
This is a photo a calendar in my hotel it shows some Lebanese boys pointing machines guns at what I think is an Israeli jeep. The Lebanese both Christian and Moslem seem to have a big financial interest in all of West Africa and run most of the Grocery stores.
Not the win friends and influence people calendar, and why is it in a hotel where there is no Lebanese guest, and why would an Togo person put the calendar up?

Togo : Culture
Like other African peoples, the Togolese have a strong oral tradition. Little has been done, to promote vernacular literature. Before freedom there were a few Togolese writers using French. Since freedom, regional literature emerged with the works of several novelists and playwrights. Founded in 1967, the African Ballet of Togo has aimed at popularizing the finest orthodox dances. Togo is a leading world producer of phosphates, which are by far the nation’s most remarkable mineral product. In 1999, 1.7 million metric tons of phosphate rock were mined. Industrial activity is limited but growing. The leading manufactures include cement, flour, palm oil, cotton textiles, beverages, and soap. Amou Assoli Bassar Binah ... AskBabyNames @ 2008 MapZones

Culture Togo has an integrated and complex cultural pattern, which is a direct result of the fact that the culture of Togo as a whole comprises of an amalgamation of some 37 different ethnic tribes. Alongside this African multi-ethnicity is to be seen European – especially French – influences. Though some of the Togolese population have adopted Christianity and other eastern religions, there is still a vast number of people who follow animism.

Togo is bounded by Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin, and the Gulf of Guinea.Togo stretches 579 kilometers (360 mi.) north from the gulf and is only 160 kilometers (100 mi.) wide at the broadest point. The country consists primarily of two savanna plains regions separated by a southwest-northwest range of hills (the Chaine du Togo).Togo's climate varies from tropical to savanna. The south is humid, with temperatures ranging from 23oC to 32oC (75oF to 90oF). In the north, temperature fluctuations are greaterfrom 18oC to more than 38oC (65oF to 100oF).Togo, officially Togolese Republic, republic (2005 est. pop. 5,682,000), 21,622 sq mi (56,000 sq km), W Africa. It borders on the Gulf of Guinea in the south, on Ghana in the west, on Burkina Faso in the north, and on Benin in the east. Lomé is the country's capital and its largest city. Togo is divided into 5 administrative prefectures. Togo became independent on Apr. 27, 1960, see Togoland. At the time of independence, Sylvanus Olympio was the country's prime minister, and when Togo adopted a presidential form of government in 1961, he became its first president. Until 1966 there were tense relations with neighboring Ghana, led by Kwame Nkrumah, who sought to merge Togo with Ghana—a plan that Togo strongly resisted. The government's inability to find employment for most of the 600 men who had served in the French army and then returned to Togo in the early 1960s led to a coup on Jan. 13, 1963, during which Olympio was assassinated.
