Petitions by Change.org Start a Petition Unexpected Toxins Without knowing it, 35-year-old Jeremiah Holland lost a lot more than weight when he decided to start seriously exercising two years ago. His racing bike helped him trim down from 118 to 90 kilos (260 to 200 pounds). What Holland could never have suspected was that during that period, he was also ridding his body of something else something he never knew was there: polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT), perfluoroctane sulfonates (PFOS), phthalates and a host of other unpronounceable chemical substances that are stored in fat and that remain in our bodies for a long, long time. Holland would never have been the wiser if he hadn't been chosen as a test subject in a project conducted by the Oakland Tribune, which studied the effect of toxic chemicals in the human body.

We are a society of people who want an alternative to various items. We want everything made simple and easy because we are so busy and have very tight schedules. We as a society need to make better choices. We take for granted things that have been used for generations without question. We don't take the time to do any research because we don't think we need too.
Now let me ask you, what are toxins? What do they do?
Toxins are chemicals and poisons placed in products and toiletries we use everyday. Chemicals like formaldehyde and dioxins are used to clean and sanitize our homes. They are disbursed in the air we breathe and absorbed into our skin. These chemicals and poisons weaken our immune system, which slows our bodies' ability to fight off germs. It takes longer for your body to fight off a cold.
Toxins are everywhere.

Puget Sound Struggles Against Tide of Toxins
by John Dodge The Olympian July 9, 2007
Every day, industry and municipal sewage treatment plants dump 1 billion gallons of wastewater tainted with toxic chemicals and oxygen-robbing nutrients into Puget Sound and its tributaries. And it's all perfectly legal. The steady stream of wastewater from nearly 1,000 sources - ranging from giant oil refineries to boatyards - is allowed under a federal permitting system created with the passage of the 1972 Clean Water Act. These National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permits, as they are called, are described by many as licenses to pollute. For 150 years, Puget Sound has been a dumping ground for the commerce and communities that have grown up on its shores. While the wastewater generated by industry and people receives far better treatment today than it did even 20 years ago, it continues as a major contributor to the pollution problems that plague Puget Sound. "Puget Sound is our front yard and our backyard and it's being poisoned every day," said Billy Frank Jr., a tribal leader and member of the Puget Sound Leadership Council charged with crafting a new Puget Sound cleanup plan by September 2008.

The LIFE System What is the LIFE System? The LIFE - Living Information Forms Energy System is sold as a biofeedback and stress management device, aimed at reducing electromagnetic the stresses on a body caused by food, toxins, environment, genetics, lifestyle etc. How the LIFE System Works The LIFE System measures various electrical reactance parameters via the 5 harnesses connected to the skin and combines these with body’s “tri-vector resonant frequencies". Based on this information, treatment (square wave) signals are emitted by the LIFE System and received by the client on a sub-conscious, ‘etherical’ level. There has been much debate over the differences between the LIFE System and the QXCI . The random event generator inside the LIFE System and the QXCI acts as the interface between consciousness and the computer, and as long as it is believed, meaningful results can be obtained from using the LIFE System. This is perhaps where the need for this type of device came from - to provide a confidence bridge - however it has also caused a lot of the controversy as people believe the LIFE System may not work as it is claimed. Environment Canada’s Solution to Toxic Office Air?
by Charlotte Hutchinson
UPdate Fall 1999 Is the picture of me wearing an industrial respirator just an attention-getting device so you’ll read this article? Or did my employer, Environment Canada (EC), buy it for me to wear at a toxic industrial site? “No” to both questions. John Clarke, the Head of Water Pollution, Atlantic
Region, had it bought for me in 1996 to wear in the office at Queen Square, Dartmouth. It arrived on my desk in a manila envelope with the note, “This is for you. You are expected to wear it.” A squeaky wheel was getting greased. And a disabled employee was being marginalized. I had become environmentally ill (EI) in the early 1980’s, mainly through my employment with the Federal Government in sick, air-conditioned buildings, some newly renovated. Queen Square was one. I n October 1990, I returned from nearly three years of sick leave and disability leave. In order to accommodate my illness, and increase my chances of staying healthy and at work, I took a demotion from a regional personnel manager of two services to an environmental engineering
technician.

Agency: Scores of youths exposed to toxins.
Byline: Anne Williams The Register-Guard
A new report by the Eugene-based Oregon Toxics Alliance cites 56 suspected cases of children being exposed to pesticides at Oregon schools, bus stops, play fields and child care facilities since 1990, including a handful in Lane County.
And that's only the tip of the iceberg tip of the iceberg
n. pl. tips of the iceberg
A small evident part or aspect of something largely hidden: afraid that these few reported cases of the disease might only be the tip of the iceberg. , said Lisa Arkin, the alliance's executive director.
"What I'd like to stress is we believe this is an under-representation of the actual scope of the problem," said Arkin, whose organization works to protect human and environmental health. "It's difficult to get people to report a suspected pesticide incident, and much of the medical literature also states that it's unusual for doctors to even realize they are required to report that to a state agency."
In some cases, she added, people simply don't make the link between symptoms and possible exposure to pesticides.

Healing Our World: Cruise Ship Pollution - A Holiday of Toxins By Jackie Alan Giuliano, Ph.D. Cruise Ship Pollution - A Holiday of Toxins I hear a voice,
the cry of a wounded animal,
Someone shoots an arrow at the moon,
A small bird has fallen from the nest.
People must be awakened,
Witness must be given,
So that life can be guarded.

W.S. Rendra Each day, whether at sea or in port, a typical cruise ship passenger may generate one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of burnable waste, half a kilogram of food waste and one kilogram of glass and tin - five or six times as much as a person on shore. On a ship carrying 3,000 passengers, this could be as much as 7,500 kilograms a day (16,500 pounds) of waste, much of which is dumped at sea into fragile marine ecosystems. The Grand Princess of Princess Cruises has pollution free water-lubricated systems (Photo courtesy Thordon Bearings Since international law only concerns itself with the waters a few miles off shore of most countries, these ships are not being held accountable for their destructive actions. In fact, most international treaties governing cruise ship pollution specifically allow ships to dump waste, including untreated human waste, at sea. Every month, 200 cruises take 400,000 visitors to Caribbean ports alone.
